Funny try at buying a bass

Today i took the day and drove all over looking for a bass.
Put some serious km's on the auto but hey it was all in the name of music.
There was a kid on kijiji selling an old fernandes p bass mij for 150$.
I drove the hour out to see it.
Was in bad setup shape, like a bow and arrow.
He said he tried to learn but it just didnt feel comfortable so hes been picking it up and putting it down and now its in the closet.
I asked if i could have some time to set it up while we BS and he said sure, I wanted to make sure it could be playable.
I did my thing and damn! What a great bass!
As he watched me doing the set up he eyes were big with alot of woahs and ahhhs.
I said i will take it.
He then picks it up and just goes nuts playing it, like a kid on xmas morning.
Now he dosent want to sell it, hes apologizing repeatably and saying wow, wow, oh man its awesome.
lol i had no choice but to just walk away. Kid ended up giving me cash for the gas and setup even though i tried to dismiss it.
Guess another bass player in the world is good enough for me.

Hope you took the money for travel and setup. It was cool of you to that for him, but he made an offer and you accepted. It was rather lame of him to change his mind.
Yes i did, i said no thanks but he insisted.
I have to admit i was a little pissed at first but in the end its nice to know he has enthusiasm to go farther now.

You know, you made that kids day and, quite possibly, turned him back on to the bass, which is something he will have all his life. And, if he does
stick with it, he will ALWAYS remember you and this cool story of how he finally got to play his bass.

And, I think it was VERY cool of him to give you some cash for your gas and setting up his bass.

Right on for both of you!

Right on! Wish someone had done that for me 20 yrs ago. Very sadly I sold my stunning 70's jazz in a pawn shop in France... watched the guy tweak the truss, lower the action and... Poof! Super playable! The pain I needlessly endured for 3 years! Not even one teacher ever set me straight. Brother, you're goin straight thru those pearloid gates!

+1
I remember having a hard time playing my first p bass because of a bad setup. I had no idea how to get it done and I didn't have the money to bring it in.

I sure am glad I stuck with it all these years later and didn't give up. Good on you, man!
