Short answer #1: I need to dig into both of them more.

Short answer #2: the Future Impact is clearly oriented for bass while the SY-300 is clearly oriented for guitar.

Longer answer: the Boss is really great for ambient sounding stuff, has a deeper FX section, a sequencer, tons of routing options, etc. But the FI really excels at the straightforward synth sounds. I have the FI in a loop of the Boss, so I can actually run sounds in parallel, which is fun but I haven't really exploited it yet.

Understood. Sounds like a Future Impact would suite my needs better.

how do you find the multiwave? im gassing for one does it play nice with the manta?? im looking to make funky wah synth sounds.

The Multiwave is very nice, definitely a unique distortion effect. I got mine around the same time as my FI, so I haven't spent a lot of time with it, but I do really like the upper octave algos. It does work well with the Manta. You can get some very synth type effects from that combination.

Here's my board shot. The big board is patched in right after the Fifthgear and before the JohnK F2B. That way I have a preamp board that goes to every gig, and my effects board, with the FI first, that goes to the fun ones.

So I can use the FI with a Disaster Area midi controller and toggle through the 99 presets with ease, but I don't know how to bypass it, or send the CC66. I created a preset with zero settings for now, but that's not the ideal solution. Any help?

you have to send a cc66 with a value above 64 to enable the f.i. and a cc66 below 64 to disable it. (127 and 0 for example) i have no idea if the disaster area can do this or not though.

Why so long coming? For a plethora of reasons too laborious to explain here. No fault to the Panda crew, nor to myself for that matter -- just the way things had to work out is all.

Well worth the wait!


Computer died last week, so it'll be a while before I can delve into it with the MIDI Beam.

Did a quick test with a bass guitar, to ensure it's operational (all good); looking forward to proper extensive DB testing with the bow!

As you probably know, we published a list which MIDI interfaces work well with FI for upgrading. To help all of our current and future users we would like to extend the list, so I would like to ask you to post a mail if you already did an upgrade attempt with or without success, and your MIDI interface is not yet part of this list. Then we will summarize the results and post the list to our web page. Please send your entry only if you used the MIDI interface for software upgrading, not only for sound editing. Yup, that's it. If you have Preset Mode enabled you can store your settings for the FI along with programs for up to two other devices and recall all at the same time. I have two SA pedals (Manta and MWBD) connected via the SB Hub and I can recall settings on all three with one tap. I often use the FI with the filters bypassed along with the Manta for synth duties.
