Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

I took 20 minutes and whipped up this JPG that I believe shows the signal workflow in the editor. The main reason the editor is so confusing is that there's no real logical arrangement of the UI in regard to the signal path. I did my best to hack up the UI and arrange it left-to-right as the signal flows. You can see all of the mixers make it complicated. :)

I didn't go back an physically test the editor VS what I think is happening. Hmmm, or look at the user manual. I believe Noise, Ar.Dist are both triggered from envelope of your bass as opposed to from the VCO section. But that might be wrong.

I did this in Pixelmator on Mac. I saved the Pixelmator file and an exported scaled down JPG to the shared TB Google Drive we've been saving our patches to in case anyone wants to take a stab at making it look, errrr, more professional. Or fixing any problems with the flow.

Funny, I was about to ask if an exact schedule like this would be an option. Makes it so much clearer and a bit less intimidating. Thanx Gastric!

Thanks.. Any idea what I might do to be able to hear the patches via the virtual keyboard?
I'm looking for some suggestions... I'm using the new editor, but I have a problem. I am trying to edit the programs on the F1 , utilizing the editor's virtual keyboard to audition the paramaters,
after alterations. But the keyboard only emits a piano tone, and doesn't reflect any of the parameter alterations. I'm attempting to use an Ir Midi bass as a controller, with some degree of success on certain patches. But it appears that I have to edit each patch as to portamento settings, as there does not appear to be a way to globally adjust the midi portamento settings. Also, I have been unable to audition the parameter changes during the editing process by just sending midi out data via isb to the Pc, with the Ir midibass a a controller. Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

I have a feeling that the editor's MIDI output is not routed the FI and the piano tone you are hearing is the soundcard's synth in the computer. With proper routing AND connecting the FI to an amp (or plugging it's audio output to your soundcard audio input) pressing the virtual keyboard you should hear the FI generated sound.

I agree with the analysis.. But I'm connected using um -one midi cables, and F1 is connected " properly" as far as I can determine, and I'm running the audio output of F1 to an amp

In the editor's setup did you choose the FI MIDI input (the UM-One) for the MIDI output? If you are correctly connected then the FI's display changes right away as you select a preset in the editor, the first two caracters are showing a dash sign.

If you use a MIDI controller with the FI I don't see any reason not to use it in Direct mode. Even without one there are much more possibilities compared to the Default mode.

Absolutely right. Default Mode was implemented only to make people happy who want to have a 100% compatible Deep Impact replacement, otherwise the Direct Mode makes much more sense.

Yes, it's connected correctly. But no sound is emitted when virtual keyboard is depressed, when the UM-1 is connected to midi in and out... Piano sound is output when one channel is assigned to PC's wave table synth

ok, let's try to figure it out:

-which version of the firmware are you running on the f.i. (1.22 or 1.01 or 1.00)
-you see the two first digits of the f.i. change when you adjust a parameter in the editor? is the pedal engaged?
-does uploading a patch work?
- what happens if you hook up a midi-keyboard to the f.i. midi in? do you hear the synth sounds when the pedal is engaged?

The firmware has been successfully updated to ver. 1.22
No change occurs in the first two digits when in editor mode with the midis cables engaged; they stay blank
Uploading a patch is successful, I reloaded all default patches successfully
I use an IR Midi bass as a controller; it triggers synth sounds successfully .

sorry if i insist some more on this, so they do not show two dashes? does adjusting parameters in the editor actually change the sound you are hearing from the f.i. (you will have to try with a bass plugged in, since on-screen keyboard is not yet working) try adjusting something drastic like the main volumes or the filter frequency so you can surely hear a difference....

hey guys, can you show us a pictures of you FI in pedalboard?

Can't post a picture now but a 95% accurate/recent picture of my board is linked from my signature.

Does having the Future Impact I make the BOSS Sy-300 redundant (or vise versa)?

Short answer #1: I need to dig into both of them more.

Short answer #2: the Future Impact is clearly oriented for bass while the SY-300 is clearly oriented for guitar.

Longer answer: the Boss is really great for ambient sounding stuff, has a deeper FX section, a sequencer, tons of routing options, etc. But the FI really excels at the straightforward synth sounds. I have the FI in a loop of the Boss, so I can actually run sounds in parallel, which is fun but I haven't really exploited it yet.
