OK. im just building my first midi controlled board with the Harley benton FXL 8.... whylst trying to do a setup, i notice that when the FI is used to change a patch, it outputs a PC message on midi out, so everything down the line changes patch.

i can see this is useful to some,as effectively the FI can be used as a PC midi controller. however im finding it rather frustrating for patch creation.

any help?

Do you need all of your devices on the same channel? If not, you could fix it that way.

Hmmm, that might work...... but i only have the option to send two PC messages at a time, id need 3 chanels if i was to do that? maybe its a bit beyond me currently. im just getting to grips with PC and CC, but i can kind of see what your saying, its just gonna take me some more tinkering time to get my head round it.

I have a workaround for now which is putting my FI at the end of the chain.which isnt ideal.... but works

Is it the normal behavior of the FI to output a PC message when changing patch>????

I didn't review the user manual, but my recollection is it outputs PC if you're physically changing the patches with the unit's footswitches but NOT if you're using an upstream MIDI controller to initiate patch changes on the FI.

One of my uber rare Talkbass appearances, just thought I'd drop a quick note in this thread...

I've been using my Future Impact with an 80's pop band that I sub fore, and it's been a great pedal. Band loves the sounds, and their main bassist got one as well. They've programmed a bunch of sounds and the keyboard player (MIDI whiz) dumped them all into mine as well. At the last show I played with them, we ran a MIDI patch to my FI and it made it pretty easy. I'm exploring the idea of putting together a small MIDI board for that band. Plug a MIDI line in and I don't have to touch my board except to tune. :)

That said, I've noticed that the LED display on my FI has developed a... "tick." The right digit blinks a bit. Any ideas?

hances are the reason it blinks is because the parameter knob is "in-between" parameters so if you move it closer to one or the other it will stop blinking.

Thought about that, and tried. :( It's really strange... the parameter is on 5, but it blinks from 5 to 9, like it has an eye twitch. I'll try again, maybe I'll see if I can take a quick vid at the next gig.

This was brought up a while back & it was suggested to remove & re-seat the 7-segment LED display modules in their sockets. Although come to think of it, this solution would be more to solve a segment dropping out, not coming on when it shouldn't. Anyway, if you're keen & careful it can't hurt.

Mine was the pedal where one of the segments stopped. I have been busy with lots of other things but I am planning on fixing this up soon. In all honesty I can handle it as long as I get the sound im fine.

mine does this too..... only its the left digit, and only one segment. i just try to ignore it

After scoring a cheap set of midi foot pedals on fleabay, this has been the afternoon's experiment:

(for those who haven't already tried it - if you're using a blender pedal you can get both your original bass sound plus the FI's sounds triggered solely by midi, by dialing the input on the FI to zero)

I think it would be easier to do that if the pedal allowed to choose whats triggering it (MIDI or Bass) since the pedal has its own internal mixer. I have suggested it a lot of times but I guess it's not a very requested feature.

Also easy to achieve just by turning the input control to zero... having it footswitchable or midi-selectable would be great of course :)

Has anyone experienced the FI not starting on the last patch you were using? For the last couple of weeks mine always seems to go to bank 3 patch 0 no matter where I was... is there an internal battery that might have been a dud one? (this happens with batteries from time to time as I'm sure we all know)

I think there is actually a setting that controls this somehow. Mine goes to a default patch rather than what I was using last. I'm not sure if "last used" is an option.
