I use a Zivix PUC+. Basically, the iPad talks by Bluetooth to the PUC+ and then that is wired by 5-PIN MIDI to the rest of my MIDI chain, including the FI.

Jealous of the wireless transmission!

Yeah my singer uses that too. I wish I could go wireless bluetooth midi as well but unfortunately the iPad can only pair to one bluetooth device at a time and I need it to pair to my iRig Blueturn pedal for page turning.

What generation of iPad do you have? I actually have two Bluetooth connections most of the time, my Guitar Wing is sending input to MIDI Designer (basically it gives me physical buttons at my fingertips) and then MIDI Designer sends everything to my board via the PUC+.

Really? I wasn't aware of that? I have an iPad pro and an iPad Air2.

So you're telling me I can do this??? And be connected to my Bluetooth Bluerig pedal and sending midi program changes too? Don't tease me now! Hehe.

I have those same two iPad models and I maintain multiple connections. I think it starts to have trouble at 3-5 connections, but two has always been fine for me.

Ok so I'm looking at the Yamaha MD-BT01 wireless bluetooth midi adaptor, has anyone used this with the FI and an iPad/iPhone midi controller app? That would be a very cool program change option for live...

My singer uses that bluetooth adapter with his ipad sucessfully. He uses an app called OnSong for his lyrics which sends bluetooth midi to the yamaha bluetooth, which connects to his TC Helicon pedal and changes patches via midi.

Perfect! And it's powered by midi apparently... I must try one.

You can do batteries (2 AA). I use the courtesy outlet on my PP Mondo to run the USB. I tried to rig an adapter to run it off of a standard outlet, but it didn't work for some reason.

I know you mentioned that you used midi designer as the app but is there anything else out there that would work with just the FI? I don't think I'll be going too far down midi road but the puc+ looks like a cool option. Now just need something that would have patches laid out I could select between.

Basically any app that transmits midi program changes you can use. There are many on both Android and Apple platforms.

If you use Android, midi commander works. I used to use it. Here is a video I did with midi commander. I think google drive may still be processing the video so you may need to download it to view it.

I should also note I do not use this method anymore once I found out I can send midi program changes with my chart program (Unreal Book).

For Apple, as stated earlier, I use unreal book since I already use it for charts when I gig.

All of maisbass info is correct. I also used MIDI Commander on Android for a bit (it's free) before transitioning to MIDI Designer on iPad. I don't know if MIDI Commander does MIDI over Bluetooth if that is of interest to you; I used a USB adapter and a USB-MIDI interface (M-Audio UNO) at the time. MIDI Commander will get the job done for simple things like program changes, which is sounds like is primarily what you want. However, while MIDI Designer does have a cost ($25 I think?), it is amazing and flexible. And it is also pretty simple to use, much more pleasing than MIDI Commander. It's a great choice if you want something that just works. FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a beta tester for MIDI Designer (no compensation).

+1. Midi designer is fantastic and a very powerful program. Love it.

However IME I would say midi commander is super simple too and it always worked for me without a hitch when I used to use it. Never crashed. However I did use it wired as @Adamixoye did. I dont know if it accepts midi over bluetooth.

I definitely never had a problem with it from a functionality standpoint, but I found the fixed layouts limiting, especially compared to what you can do with MD.

Actually, I take that back, I did have one functionality issue with it. Sometimes the connection would crap out. I couldn't let the tablet or my phone fall asleep.
