Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

Excellent work, I’m really looking forward to this.

Because the FI has a secondary use as a conventional (but potentially handy and space-saving) bass multiFX, I don’t suppose anyone involved might have some time to create a few solid “conventional” bass effects like choruses/slap delays/basic EQ block, properly gainstaged and balanced (eg “push and go”)? It would be great to have a bank of these for those of us who don’t have a lot of extra space remaining on our pedalboards for other pedals.

I’m afraid my own not-very-deep tweaking in that direction didn’t come up with any, say, really satisfying CE2-style chorus sounds, so I’d be interested to see what somebody who is more “dialed” on the architecture could pull off.

I’ve got some nice envelope filter sounds programmed. One or two might make it into the factory soundset but otherwise will be available.

The distortion has huge potential too and is a greatly overlooked section of the architecture.

I already asked Andras to send me some sample chorus and flanger settings so I can include them in the manual.

Excellent, I rather thought we’d be on the same page about this.

I can’t help but wonder if the potential flexibility in internal modulation routing is matched by a potential flexibility in internal audio routing, which would mean that down the road we might be able to pull off some great old tricks - like, say, putting an HPF on FX like distortion or chorus before blending them back into the dry signal. Food for thought for V4.

The effects are at the very end of the chain so no is the short answer. Check out the Source Audio C4 for crazy internal routing possibilities.

Check out my v3 sound clips. Some of the envelope filter sounds are quite near the top. There’s a link further up to the whole folder.

There's a few chorus patches in my folder in the shared drive. I found the chorus to be fairly mild overall, but possibly usable depending on your needs.

Like I said when this product was first released, we should all be happy there's some effects in there at all, as opposed to disappointed at the sound or lack of features they provide.

Working on the manual descriptions has helped me discover some things I didn’t know about what’s possible with the FI. For instance, I’d somehow managed to overlook the fact that foldover distortion is possible within a single oscillator block; I knew it occurred between separate oscillator blocks. The usability of the distortion is also something I’d not had cause to explore before.

You’ll all be thrilled when you get a taste of the treats in store.

Any update on time frame. Im itching to load some of sounds you've demo'd.
Patience, my friend. We’re getting closer. I can’t give you a date though. I believe there’s one last small feature to be implemented in the firmware, some finessing of the interface and fixing the bugs we’ve found and any new ones that come up. I’m just updating the manual with a few new bits of information but it’s close to complete. (I’m sure it could be made even better, but I want to get back to patch writing and bug testing soon.)

A quick question:
How many of you would find a section in the new manual on “building your first sound” useful? I’m considering adding one.

Hit like if you would.
How about a brief section on how to go about using the FI as a standard envelope filter?

It would seem I’m a glutton for punishment; I’ve made a start on writing a new manual section discussing the FI as a replacement for standard single-effect pedals. It may or not make it into the final version. I’ll see how it turns out.

So far I’ve planned to include:
Envelope filter
Pedal wah-wah
Chorus/flange
Tremolo
Vibrato
Octaver

Any glaring omissions? Please bear in mind, this is extra work and not strictly necessary.

Reverb?
Overdrive?

Not sure what is possible, just throwing some out.

Overdrive is pretty straightforward and mentioned in the FX section, though a short sentence to recap should do. I’ve also included a section on distortion (which was included in the excerpt I posted earlier).

I need to play around with the reverb more before writing anything as it’s not my forte.

All these things will make using the FI easier and more attractive to me, certainly. So I appreciate it. I would think it would also make it more attractive to those who are in the place of debating FI/C4.

...in other non sequitur thoughts...

I haven't updated my FI to the newest firmware yet. I'm planning on putting it back on my board this week, so I guess it's as good a time as any. What's the best way to proceed here...I'm using FI->Roland UmOne->Macbook Pro. IIRC there are two ways to update firmware.

^The C4 has made it viable for me to fit the FI back on my board and, and if I can get some great new patches happening will be an additional asset.
