Having trouble connecting to the editor and hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

I've recently received the FI along with MidiBeam RX02&TX02.
I have reviewed the documentation and spent a few hours looking for clues online and in this thread to solve my issue with no success.

I have downloaded the editor.
Connected the RX02 to the PC via USB
Launched the editor
Set the midi device settings to FI input: MidiBeam Output: Midibeam Keyboard: Off
Paired the RX02 and TX02
connected the TX02 to the Midi Out of the FI
The versions of the Editor and the FI match (3.60)

When I try to perform a function such as Loading a file from FI in the Editor or Save all files from FI from the file menu I receive an error message:
"FI not present or a communication error has occurred"

I've power cycled the FI. Restarted the computer.

Swap the cables round. Likely you have the in and out plugged into the wrong ports. If I had £1 for every time this happens…

I just reread your post.

Sounds like you have nothing plugged into the FI midi in at all! Is that right?

Don’t use the transmitter. instead, plug the FI in and outs into the receiver and then connect the receiver to the PC via USB.

The receiver acts as an interface to the computer. The editor requires bidirectional input and output to be connected if using the manager feature.

The transmitter is unidirectional only and is only used in performance.

Thank you. You are correct I was using just the midibeam with no additional cables. My impression from the docs was that’s all I needed. Will pick up some cables and try again. Thanks for the clarity.

You’re welcome.

I’m curious why you’ve chosen the midiBeam; do you plan to trigger the FI remotely with a keyboard or wind controller or something? If just using bass, their 4Control may have been the better choice as that would give you access to expression and switch controls.

After reading the documentation I thought the midiBeam was a standalone solution to access the editor. I figured wireless would be a more convenient solution than running cable. I have no experience with midi, so I can understand a learning curve.

Thank you for your input. After scouring the threads online it is clear that you have dedicated a lot of time to supporting people like me get to know their gear. It is appreciated.

You’re welcome.

If you bought new directly from panda, it might be worth seeing if they’ll swap it out for the 4Control. Distance selling allows you to return within 14 days anyway; if you explain that you potentially bought the wrong thing for your needs they can perhaps sort out a swap.

I apologize if I'm not following proper protocol here. But I'm looking for three specific tones out of my FI. I am aware of the file sharing site but would guess if these tones exist, wizards on the thread here would know.

Are there convincing orch strings, choir ambient sounds, and bowed cello that can all be played using a bass guitar? I don't mean at the same time. Three selectable programs.

There’s a reasonable cello patch in the factory sounds.

Define “convincing”. The FI can be programmed to do typical synth string sounds (often sawtooth combined with a PWM square). As waveforms can be combined in a single oscillator, you should be able to make four copies of that setting and vary the tuning slightly to create chorusing. You can also run it through the chorus to further get that ensemble sound (though it’ll still be monoaural).

Vocal sounds should also be possible as you can create formants with the dual bandpass filters.

My definition of "convincing" in this case would be on the lower scale of things. The idea is not to fool anyone but more of a patch that still sounds synthetic and performs well in a live setting.

I'm way over my head in thinking I can build a quality set of patches from scratch. I was hoping that these developments existed that I could download and tweak. But thanks for the tips anyway!

Ordinarily I could probably have a crack at these things but I’m busy with other stuff at the moment and my FI/computer setup is a bit inaccessible at present.

I was gifted an 80's Yamaha KX88 midi synth keyboard. It's a heavy keyboard with nice weighted action. It only has midi in and out, no 1/4'', and no on-board speakers. The manual says to hook the midi out up to a ''Midi tone generator''. Would my Future Impact pedal work for this application? I've never used midi anything. Any advice appreciated thanks!

Absolutely yes. Just connect midi out of your keyboard to midi in on the FI, switch FI input to keys (I think) and connect FI 1/4" output to amp in the normal way.

Indeed it will. I use my FI almost as much with a midi keyboard or sequencer as with bass.
