I hooked my bass up to Ableton through the FI with external midi on, and was able to create a whole song on the fly, from the drums, piano, synth lead and bass. It was really fun. I'm now putting together a live looping setup, and intend to try to do this in performance. The only pita thing for me was figuring out each of the many virtual instruments in Ableton's pitch bend values. Most were +2, and a couple were +5 by default. Make sure the FI has the same pitch bend value set!

Again I have tried to connect my NEW V4 VIP to the FIEditor no success.

Im using this….

There are no other midi USB connected devices to the PC. The editor software is installed, the VIP software is version 4.11..

What am i doing wrong here?

Lights remain unlit, no evidence on the editor screen that the VIP is recognized. Had the same issue with the V3.

Im gonna go with "invert the cables" what you think its IN and OUT, its not. The little arrows are deceiving.

Make sure Google Chrome isn’t open.

I’m assuming PC.

Have you installed the Roland driver from their website? This is not a plug-and-play interface. You need to install it before connecting the interface to the computer.

Once you have the driver installed, plug the interface in and open the FI editor. Go to the MIDI preferences menu and select the UM one as the input and output device.

The interface should have one light on all the tone to indicate power and another light that flashes whenever it sends or receives data: moving sliders in the editor should now cause the light to flash in response.

Make sure the iinterfsce is plugged into the correct ports on the FI. Look at the labels on UM’s plugs, they are very clear and even have text on the other side.

Once connected to the FI correctly, moving a slider should cause the FI display to show two horizontal lines.

First off, wanna say thanks. You guys are wonderful. I installed the drivers, the midi/usb cable is powering, when I moved a slider in the editor the VIP went to “- - “ on the display, so I’m guessing the connection is correct.

My next challenge will be how to get the config in the pedal to appear on the editor. (Rev 4.12 latest I believe)

Any tips on how to use the editor is appreciated. I honestly have zero experience programming synth sounds. I moved to the VIP solely based on the you tube vids exampling the new 99 presets scheduled to come out in…..?

Once I load the new presets, its unlikely I’ll be doing much editing.

Another objective is to create a few traditional presets ( or install ones that have already been created by others) for Octaver, auto-wah/env filter. But the primary use of the pedal will be for live performance with my 80’s band, and then ultimately my smaller trio.

I’ll start perusing the manual and try and get familiar with how i’ll install the new update once its released.

Any additional insights/directions are greatly welcomed.

Paging FI guys with an idea for the incoming fw upgrade.
I love my new FI V4 VIP. But I always struggle with program down operation by fast switching the left footswitch. The results are random and unpredictable, to get e.g. from patch 5 to patch 2. In case of a fixed setlist it is not a problem, I can order patches as needed, but for some spontaneous jamming, it is unpredictable and frustrating. I thought about buying a MIDI controller but my pedalboard is already packed.
I got an idea - what about the "FX Loop" mode. I have the FI in the FX loop of a modeler (no MIDI functionality, unfortunately). The FI is always ON.
I don't use the right footswitch on FI at all.

I would love to have the "FX Loop" mode:
- Left footswitch is for program UP and the right footswitch for program DOWN (or viceversa)
- Long press moves faster up (left sw) or faster down (right sw) through patches
- FI starts turned on upon powering

This FX Loop mode could be activated/deactivated as the Global parameter.
I believe many would apprecciate this. Would it be possible?

This would likely interfere with access to the global menu and tuner, both of which require a long press of the on/off switch.
