How do you save a preset from dexed as a single file? It only loads cartridges and I can't figure it out

There’s an option in Dexed to load a single patch (right-click and select “send to DX7”); you can then capture the SysEx file in MIDIOX or similar.

As I said, I haven’t yet been shown how cartridge files will be handled.

I found a few presets in the global pool that couldn't be uploaded to my FI. When trying to do so, it caused a communications error. I made sure they were converted to .pr4 format, and tried a number of ways. Deleting these from my bank enabled the rest to be uploaded without issue. Any idea why? I zipped them up for you here, if you care to investigate:

I was talking to someone about FM a few weeks back and downloaded Dexed to have a play - highly recommended for everyone…
Thoughts:
1 I’m not a synth head, but I get subtractive synthesis. I understand the theory of what’s going on in fm but how it relates to all the knobs and settings I don’t know - it’s mentally complex!
2 there’s are thousands of existing DX7 patches you can find that do so so much stuff - how this transfers over to a mono synth bass pedal I don’t know - but I’m excited to find out!
I’ve tried a v4 fi and the tracking and how it felt to play was excellent

That was it! Exclamation point in one, apostrophe in another, and hyphens. Thank you! Hey, a big quality of life request for the editor would be the ability to set a default directory. Every time I have to navigate through to the hard drive, folder and sub folder where the presets are stored. Thanks for all your hard work on this awesome device!

I bought my first Panda FI Mk1 off a fellow bassist here in the UK back in 2018 - he and I have stayed mates ever since meeting up at a motorway service station in time honoured fashion to buy/sell the goods!

But I never quite gelled with that or the subsequent several I bought and gave up on!

I always thought that this could be a great product (and fed my thoughts back to Peter) as and when:
- they improved the tracking (done - v4)
- came out with a more compact pedalboard friendly model (done - v4 VIP)
- made this user friendly for bassists who wanted some great usable sounds out of the box and allowed for better on-board editing - looks they've cracked that with v4.5

The MXR Synth provides all that too and has demonstrated the level of demand for the above.

But for an extra £20 (here in the UK) the FIv4 provides a more capable synth engine, a better display, many more presets, and the ability to deep dive with a bespoke computer editor for those who would like to have that option. Feels like a no-brainer to me, and it's great to be able to support a home-grown product championed by one of our own.

I just found out about the VIP and 4.5 rev with all the presets demo'd at NAMM 2026 a few moments ago ( I know..."welcome to the party pal") .

I've had the V3 for 2 years and use it sparingly for a few tunes in the 80's band I'm in. I've avoided attempting to use the V3 with other tunes, as I couldn't get the unit to connect to the PC and consequently, the editor software. I even purchased a new Audiobox interface , but with no success.

i LOVE the V3 when i do use it. It tracks far better than the MXR I tried for 1 day, and sent back, but if i could get the VIP with the 4.5 rev, and ALL the great presets I hear on the youtube demo's, I'd pull the trigger in a minute.

My question is, will it come outta the box with the 4.5 rev and be essentially "plug and play"? Meaning, will i get all those presets loaded and good to go right outta the box?

It is very irksome that it doesn't have a USB connection right on the chassis, that easily connects to my PC , like my HX Stomp, Or my ZOOM B3, or the litany of pedals that do not require a third device to permit editing.

because if I haven't been successful connecting the V3, I'm not confident i can connect the V4 VIP.

Once v4.5 is launched, new units will come loaded with it and hence with the presets already onboard.

Sorry to hear of the problems you’ve had connecting. It’s usually something really simple like having hooked up the ports the opposite way round; I’ve lost count how many times this has turned out to be the issue.

The rest of the time, it’s usually something to do with either windows’ limitation of only allowing a singie USB connection at a time, or the way MIDI studio on Mac works.

I use a USB to midi cable to edit, update, and trigger midi in my DAW with the FI4, since there are no midi ports on my audio interface, and it works great. The cables are quite cheap!

So far I’ve loaded separate files. Not sure if it’ll handle a cartridge file of 32 yet. One would need to specify the starting slot I guess.

You will be able to load a cartridge of 32 sounds into the Manager side of the editor. Then you can grab any of the 32 sounds and pull it over to the FI..

Has anyone found any good usb to midi cables on Amazon that work w the FI? I have an interface and do it that way but with the new software coming looking for an easier solution (that interface lives on the desktop station in my basement) looking for one that will be good for my laptop

I purchased a USB to midi cable, and was unsuccessful in connecting my V3 to my PC. I then purchased an audio interface with MIDI, and was also unsuccessful in connecting the V3. I did not realize the 4.5 software had not yet been released. I pulled the trigger last night on a V4 VIP. I have 30 days to try it out. If I cannot get it to connect, I’ll have my answer. But I cannot imagine I cannot overcome this connection issue. is there a release date on the 4.5 rev?

Wanting to incorporate an expression pedal into my setup for my FI. What kinds of things can I control with it. With the deep impact emulations as examples. What do you guys use it for?

On a most basic level, I use it for CC1 which, by default, controls the LFO depth to filter and VCOs. However, I use it to create morphing in my patches, assigning CC1 to all four flexis to change oscillator levels, envelope parameters, cutoff, resonance, etc. many of the patches I’ve shared have these things set up ready to go. Just map your expression pedal to CC1 and give it a try.

I purchased a USB to midi cable, and was unsuccessful in connecting my V3 to my PC.

If you can see your interface as an option for input and output in the MIDI preferences menu of the editor, then you should be able to connect without issue.

Remember, Windows has a limitation that only allows a single USB MIDI instance to be active at any given time so make sure you don’t have anything else using it. This could even be something like Chrome which has MIDI capability.

I have several inexpensive ones that work well, I do occasionally need to restart the system as I am constantly overtaxing the USB manager on my computers by using several different USB devices that at some point drives them a bit batty.
