Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

Would anyone put the Fishman Fission Bass on their list of accomplishments unless it happened to be true.

To be clear, I'm in no way suggesting that it is. I am only saying I don't have direct experience with any of these products and didn't do any deeper research. But the website seems legit.

I thing he is implying could be worse than a prank, like maybe a scam, but that's why we have paypal and credit cards, which virtually eliminate any buyer risk. Guys, stop convincing this profink guy to buy one. I want his.

Prank was the wrong word, it's not what I meant. Yes, a scam is the worry. But I think we are mostly covered there through 3rd party means.

Also, I didn't totally get this joke the first time around. I now remember that the reviews, at least the ones around here, are pretty bad.

@ProfFrink your concerns are genuine, but irrational if you haven't followed this megathread in its entirety. being a new comer its easier to judge and say its a scam - since going through this entire thread is daunting...which leads to not knowing what has been already discussed..... but hey i know alot of people that like to make a quick conclusion at first glance..... (jedi mind trick) you don't need this new pedal...move along

I am definitely taking somethings on faith. No doubt. But how is that different than any new company / new product situation? The assumptions I am making are reasonable (for me) and I am assuming that people are being honest - right pedigree for the developer, software that was possible in the mid-90s should be simple today, no insurmountable challenges that I can think of in creating a comparable product to the DI, a price point that is reasonable in that it suggests substantial development work etc.

Sometimes I sit on the sidelines when these things come up - see Beat Buddy. This time, I don't mind diving in.

Practically unknown? His list of products is extensive and quite a few are well known here, including the product in the title of this thread.

Thas right gents. Panda is not a new nor unknown company like Singular Sound was when pushing the Beat Buddy on us gear gluttons.

That was careless. You're one of the FX Gurus that people look up to, and seek out for advice. Not doing your homework is going to have a Deep Impact...

However...

I've jumped the queue and arranged with Panda Audio to buy the prototype and the entire first batch (still negotiating the second). I will get one into the hands of aMuse's Chris Worcestershire, Michael Legume of Snarcotic Puppy and Doug Wishbone of In Liver Colour and maybe a few other select stars. Once the stars have driven demand through the roof, I will be selling the FIs on a first-con first-swerved bassist for whatever the market will bull (Inside traders told me I should always sell in a Bull Market, not a Bear Market).

Once I secure the 2nd and subsequent biatches, I'll start a new tread if any of you still want on the Speculaytive Liszt

And Feral's path to World Domination takes its first, and rather important, step....

And lest we forget, the Beat Buddy has been a pretty big success story as far as I can tell (I mean, in my own experience, I think it's great, but I see plenty of indication that the product is pretty successful in a broader sense). But it's apples and oranges with this.

I think the point on the Beat Buddy is that you took a sizable risk in pre-ordering, but you were compensated for doing so with a much lower preorder price. Here the risk is less given the company's history, other products, etc and so there is less (or rather no) compensation for pre-ordering - which makes sense given that Kickstarter is just access to capital (and rather expensive capital in Beat Buddy's case) and if you have Andras's pedigree, your access to capital should be easier and cheaper.

There is no risk. If you pre-order through paypal, then you can get your money back. Besides I doubt he's going to do a pre-order. If I were him, I wouldn't. It puts too much pressure on the results coming faster by taking money. I mean, I'd love to pre-order one sure, but I could totally understand not doing pre-orders.

Also as stated the company is well established. Now it was kind of iffy in my head when it was just Lokki posting. No offense meant to him but I don't know anything about him, so for all I know is it was an elaborate ruse. But now that the builder has chimed in and shown us stuff, there's no worries. Plus if it didn't happen for whatever reason, what am I losing? Nothing but my want for one.

I think we understand "risk" differently.

Agreed - there is no "risk" that I am going to get scammed here and no be protected by one of my credit card, Paypal, etc. I am not worried about a scam here at all.

That said, there is a pretty large "risk" that the product will not be the product that you imagine. @ProfFrink was making the point that if you wait for reviews, demos, etc, you can mitigate that "risk". I am willing to get in on the pre-order as there are enough indicators of likely success that I would rather get one and be disappointed, than not get one and suddenly be in a weird position of not being able to get one. That's all.

Oh - and - I don't know we are wasting our time debating about whether they should do a pre-order. They've clearly got a sales strategy in mind. And from all indications, it will be finished units in January.

Yeah, that's why I said the Beat Buddy was apples and oranges. My point was only that even those "higher-risk" cases sometimes pan out, which I guess isn't super-relevant to the discussion, but as long as people were bringing it up as a point of comparison it seemed worth mentioning.

As far as the financial risk, I agree that we should mostly be protected by Paypal / credit cards. But there is always the worst case scenario of things dragging beyond the claim window (e.g. 45 days for Paypal).
