what kind of sound would you like to hear mixed? i see if i can record something in the next days.

I would try to create something similar to this guy's version of Lets Groove, but with more dry signal on top. So that it sounded like a synth and bass playing in unison.


I don't want to create more work for you though. I should be able to use my imagination to know what that will sound like. It's good to know the pedal is capable of it. Thanks.

Chromeo - Frequent Flyer (classic synth slap bass):

Parliament - Flash Light (gets asked about a lot in these forums):

LCD Sound Systems - Someone Great (fun detuned down swept bass synth):

The Presets - This Boy's In Love (will require a tight gated type sound):

Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get Enough (simple mono bass synth tone):

MSTKRFT - The Looks (will require a tight gated type sound):

NiN - Closer (gets asked about a lot in these forums):

Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls (simple, old school bass synth tone):

Yeah perhaps. But judging from the sound samples of the FI posted here as compared to the sound samples of the boss sy-300 that have been posted, the FI wins in spades for me so far. Perhaps more can be done with the boss, but I concur with Gastric, I've yet to hear it from any Sy-300 sound samples so far.

The FI just sounds to me what I've been yearning for ever since my deep impact kicked the bucket. I can't wait to purchase the FI.

You're probably correct. But it doesn't make it any less true. And so I continue to throw down the gauntlet to see if the next box on the block can meet some of the challenges. Really, most of these sounds are what I'd consider fairly basic bread-n-butter type bass synth tones, none are too far out or experimental. The trick with some of them are the amount of attack/decay control, and the quickness of the retriggering.

My experience with the SY-300 so far is that I can get it to be "fat," at least as far as I'm concerned (and it's been a common complaint), but it always ends up sounding a little "dirty," like I can't turn off the reverb or something. Which is fine for the more ambient stuff, but for the simpler tones it doesn't quite sound like what I want it to. I still love the unit for lots of things though. I think the two will complement each other fantastically.

Jokes aside, I'd like to hear some examples of of the FI imitating tones of other songs. @gastric outlined some examples later in this post. I'm already convinced the FI can make unique tones, I'd still like to hear it recreate existing/classic tones.

In fairness, that was a looooong time ago in this thread. Like, before the Mythical List.

Mad props to @gastric for turning me on to almost all of those songs and artists though. Regardless of whether the pedal son the market can imitate their tones I'm better off knowing these artists.

I totally agree with you. I recently joined a cover band where I put a lot of effort into learning tones and parts. The songs you posted run the gamut of programming potential for synth bass or key bass.
