Fuzz addict club! If you don't like it fuzz off!

That said, the Megalith wouldn't resolve my number 2 issue. The Wren & Cuff looks more suitable, but I'm thinking something with like two knobs. It's already dialed in to a decent fuzz effect and only has a volume and a dirt/sustain knob.

It's really much easier to find good settings on the Megalith. Even though it has six knobs they aren't nearly as sensitive as the Swollen Pickle. Not as overwhelming as it appears. At least the tweakability. The Fuzz tone on the other hand can be pretty damn overwhelming. :)

Honestly, boutique/expensive isn't necessary. A decent MXR or EHX would probably do. I really like Abominable Electronics' stuff and use their Don't Shred as a persistent gain boost (read: always on). Their pedals are legit clones and high quality and are very reasonably priced (especially if they have a sale), but most of their pedals offer too much tweakability.

If you like the sound of the SP, the alternative is also a nicely voiced Muff with actual lows and a mids adjustment. The SFX Micro Fuzz would fit the bill (or other coloursound bass fuzz variants like maybe the new Stomp Under Foot Rhinosaur).

What about the new MXR bass dist??

That Micro Fuzz looks kinda neat. Having trouble locating one used to price it, as well as a demo.

I'm actually a big fan of MXR. I use their compression and also have the newer Env Filter, which is fantastic. That El Grande could fit the bill, really.

I played an el grande before. Talk about a touchy volume. It's by far the touchiest volume I've ever worked with. very very hot pedal.

It is a beast. I would of suggested that but was under the impression he wanted something similar to a Swollen Pickle. If he just wants a great sounding affordable fuzz than this is a great choice!

Yeah, I was going to suggest a Vick Black Russian too haha. But when he brought up the El Grande, the Diabolik was the first thing that popped in my mind as a great alternative for some reason. Dude, we really need to hang already!! I want to play the Diabolik so bad

So... I hate starting new threads on here and this question doesn't really need another "what's the best fuzz" thread. I have a Swollen Pickle. I love it, but it's kinda too much. A couple things bug me about it:

1. The big knobs are real easy to turn by accident with your foot and the volume is way too sensitive. This could potentially be a problem when we're playing live if my toe happens to graze the knobs, which has happened in practice. Shut up... I'm clumsy.
2. Too many controls, too hard to dial in. Again, in a live setting, I don't want to have to tweak the pedal for five minutes. I haven't really yet bothered to do so, but...

It would be nice to have a very good, capable fuzz pedal with simpler controls that negate the two aforementioned issues. Also, I'm fine with the "doomy" nature of the Pickle and it needs to be a pedal that lets my low end in. What would be a suitable alternative in your opinions?

Lots of good suggestions.

I think the Destroyer by Black Arts checks your boxes.

One knob. two foot switches. heavy as F'
