I second that. I just got a Brown Acid two weeks ago and it simply glorious. I replaced it for my MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe.

Based on the description in the first post, I'd say give the Bluebeard a shot. I bet that will end your quest.

Yes. No clean blend needed because it doesn't suck away your low end. You do lose some of that low end the higher you increase the tone knob (past about 11:00 or so). But that tone knob is very hot so going past that point is not needed. You'll be very surprised to find the settings you like very quickly.....
I reckon it's narrowed down to the MXR Brown Acid Fuzz Vs the Grey Stache. Or possibly the EHX Green Russian + an EQ and/or an LS2. Similar price for all those options.
Plenty of other good pedals mentioned but a lot aren't so easy to get hold of or have excessive shipping+ tax charges to get to the UK.

Done! MXR Brown Acid Fuzz purchased. I like MXR pedals - have owned the M82 Envelope filter, M87 Compressor, and M288 Octaver and all did their jobs well....perhaps not the most unique or exciting pedals but they do their jobs well within a solid built small size.
Not being 2nd hand, custom, or imported means it's simple to return if it doesn't cut it for me (shops will start blacklisting me soon with the amount I return!)

i use the Brown Acid with the gain/fuzz control in the lower settings. it sounds bitchen high but it can lose some definition when it's cranked (at least with my basses).
I really liked my EHX Green Russian Reissue especially for the price but I didn't end up using it often for the band that I'm in. I ended up splurging a bit on a Wren and Cuff Tall Font through their custom shop. I was able to have a clean blend added it (along with a couple of other cool mods like). It sounds even better than the EHX and I can now blend in as much fuzz as I want. I'm guessing it might be a little spendy based on what you said about the EQD Hoof but worth checking out.
Another Brown Acid fan here, best Bass Fuzz I have used, kicked off my Russian Pickle.

Be aware it might underwhelm a little by itself (Still sounds pretty good) but in the mix, Holy Cow it is amazing!

The Aguilar Fuzzistor can fit your bill but it sound different than a muff. Some people dont like it. I do!
I like the Iron Ether Oxide myself, very articulate and sounds great.
