Alright cause i'll be ordering them soon, and hoping to get them by the last week of September when i go into studio (preferably before then so i can **** with em a little bit) but i have yet to order them so one step at a time haha.

Also, being in Canada, will i have to pay the 28 bucks for shipping for each pedal or how does that work?

If you order them separately, yes.

Together, I'll charge $40 and refund you the difference. Don't worry, we don't keep leftover funds ;).

I got my Oh See Demon earlier this week - couldn't be happier!

Quick update on my experience with the Rat Tail. While it was a blast to play my stingray through it, my spector is a different story. I've found that I get the bestest results out of this pedal when I want a fat vintage-ish sound, not an in yer face OD.

I have both clippings near full, switch on the left or center, filter at noon and distortion at about 11'. With a really tame signal going in - read, barely any level from the bass, just enough knob turning to hear sound - I get this fat/warm sound that breaks naturally without sounding like distortion. More like a tube amp having it's power section driven a bit. Anything louder from the bass and it goes into full on distortion which I usually am not a huge fan of.

My Spector(Euro) has a really hot output so it usually sends it into heavy distortion, too much so for my taste. I even set an EQ with the level down to tame it just that much more..

I still think the pedal sounds amazing, any blues jam/hendrix stuff sounds heavenly, but as an overdrive in a hard rock setting, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, unless that's what your going for..

I'm getting my hands on a LS-2 or something similar soon to run it in parallel to see what kind of results I can get just because.. I don't know, I get a good feeling out of the pedal I want to work something out and keep it on the board. Maybe have a really strong bass with a crunchy feel to it, I'd love to get the fundamental sound of the pedal added to my sound rather than have the pedal completely become the sound, if that makes any sense..

Edit. I'm also thinking about running the Rat through a 105q.. just some ideas floating around for a tune we have.. If anyone can get it here by the end of the week or early next week I would be a taker! Other side note, we should be hitting the studio the day before the gig, I'll try getting some samples for the Rat in a professional studio. (Different basses, different amps, tube vs ss..) I can't promise but I really want to.

I have only used the Rat Tail with passive basses and it's been a dream in almost all kinds of settings. So much that after I sold mine I got back on the waiting list for a new one.

I was able to find the right sounds for me by first starting with a boosted sound, where there was barely a difference in tone from the bass sound without pedal engaged, then added grit from there. I was able to keep the fundamental tone that I like while adding in some dirt. I guess it's like a dry boost/overdrive for me. Keeps me from the temptation of also ordering an OSD!

Note that the 105q has reeeeeeally crappy bypass, so beware, ESP for recording. I have a byoc modded wah that I did in the classifieds if you're interested.

The original Proco RAT and our Rat Tail do a specific thing: distort ;). You can get a solid fundamental out of a rat or rat clone with a loooot of tweaking. A passive bass is a good place to start. RATs and p basses are made for one another. Distortions generally work differently than overdrives, so your mileage may vary!

Try middle toggle, f 9:30/10:00, d 10:00, 1 5:00, 2 4:00 and tweak from there. Report back, soldier! :)

Perfect, sound advice!

I can see how this is a much better fit for passive.. but but.. I love my bass :smug: and I'm freakishly dedicated to making it work!

I'll try those settings fo shizzle! I could try them now but headphone music doesn't translate too well to my amp, I'll report back tomorrow. As for the wah, really really interesting, I'm looking to set it at a wah level and not wank the pedal too much. Looks like that vox enclosure always falls back down, like there's no resistance to keep the pedal at a certain height, am I wrong?

no, I was at the hospital with the newborns:) Born today.

As for the pedal- just got home and saw the "telltale" box. Sharp little paint job. I'll plug it in and play with it a bit once I put my son to bed:bassist:

After going through this thread and playing with my fuzz pedals, I've decided I need MORE pedals in my life. I think I want more Fuzzrocious pedals.

Try middle toggle, f 9:30/10:00, d 10:00, 1 5:00, 2 4:00 and tweak from there. Report back, soldier! :)

I'll try these settings as well since I mainly play my Spector.

EDIT: Looked at the pedal and realized those were practically my settings, aside from the drive. Damn, I'm good.

JDeewond, what sort of fuzz are you trying to get? I was just tweaking around with the settings Ryan listed and got some really nice tube grind with these settings:
Volume - To Taste
Filter - 11:00
Drive - 9:00 or 10:00
1 - 5:00 (I pretty much keep this between 3:00 and 5:00 because of how awesome it sounds, especially with a pick)
2 - Between Noon and 5:00, depending on what sounds best to you
Toggle - Middle (No Diodes)

I was using a Spector and a pick when fiddling with that setting and it sounded gnarly (in a good way). Really crunchy grind, similar to sounds I can get with my AGRO. I'm sad to say it, but once I find out what's wrong with my AGRO, I MIGHT just sell it. Every time I use the Rat Tail it gets more and more versatile. I REALLY like the AGRO, but the Rat Tail is starting to scare me with the different amounts of fuzz you can get with it.

If you want REALLY beefy/doomy fuzz, crank 2 up to about 4:00 and get that drive passed noon. HELLO. I find if you're going to use this pedal for doom, try switching the toggle to the left (Diode Clipping) or right (Mosfet Clipping) and crank the volume up.

DOUBLE EDIT: It would probably help to mention I'm using an SVT CL into the matching 8x10. It's 1:00 in the morning so I've got the Gain on 10:00 and Master on 9:00. Using the volume of the pedal to turn it down. All of the EQ settings are fairly close to noon.

So I've been phasing between the rat tail and the OSD, and i want some opinions from you chaps.

I'm looking for that sort of Josh Newton-esque bass tone.

Currently i run a Warwick Thumb BO and a Squier Classic Vibe Jazz (this gets used 90% of the time now), and will be using an SVP-CL preamp, BBE Sonic Maximizer (maybe, still not set on this) into a Sunn Coliseum Slave, which powers an Ampeg 610 and a Sunn 215.

The tunes i play are pretty fast converge/ETID/All Hallow's era AFI sorta stuff. But we do/will have doomier sections as well (but i guess that's where the fuzz comes in to play)

Given all that, any suggestions from you folks?

You still down the list buuuuuuddy (said in a screech powers voice). A couple dudes ahead of you still.

nice! was worrying that my mail people stole it.

heh. we played a show with Screech and his horrible band. we're talking the Head Of The Class Screech right?

the owner of the club came back stage while we were blowing them up with Le Screechah and Omar made him cry and go into the Screech Voice after yelling at him about doing drugs in his club. we're were dying, 'cause Omar was just ****ing with him. he used to offer a rail or a bump to you when you were getting your pay for the night.

Ayliffe, I will certainly recommend the Rat Tail. My next step will be a preamp/power amp combo into a 610 and 215 and you can bet your ass I'll still be using the Rat Tail.

It's versatile as all hell. To be honest, I was just dicking around with riffs from "Heaven in her Arms" by Converge, and I can get a fairly similar grind. It's obviously not spot on, but I am pleased with the attack. It's somewhere between Converge and Meshuggah in the sense of how crunchy it is when you use a pick.

That being said, keeping the same settings, one turn of the drive knob and you've got yourself full-on doom, brother.
