G.A.S is ridiculous

I have three P basses and two of them are Fender American Pro. The third is a Univox.

The Pro's I have the Olympic white and the antique olive.

Can someone please explain to me why I feel the want to get a Candy Apple Red Pro when I already have a couple and they sound and play so well. Am I really chasing a color?

Simple. We all like shiny things. I like looking, but I realize I won't find anything better than what I have now. About the only things I am looking at are small accessories (one of my two Ps doesn't have a de-tuner on the E string, and it is a big help on gigs).

Candy apple red resonates with some frequencies and boost the low mids which makes you cut through the mix.

That’s why you need one now.

That was my first bass. Awesome quality.

I did the same thing with Musicman Stingrays! I’m down to one now, and I feel much better. But I did go kinda crazy for a few years.

I rationalize it in the following way.

My habit(s) could be hookers and blow, or antique cars. Those seem more destructive/expansive. A few grand tied up in basses (assuming you don't have to go into debt to get them) is no biggie.

Yeah, that's kinda the point of a refin - to obtain a color you desire to have instead of what you currently have, but okay.

I know it's a difficult concept to grasp, but once you do...

There’s just something special about candy apple red. I have a custom bass on order and despite being able to pick just about any color you can imagine, I still went CAR. Good luck with whatever you decide!

The cool thing about buying used is that you can later sell the item for what you paid. Then you can satisfy current G.A.S.

Just trade one in for the CAR if you really are GASing over it. Probably only cost you almost nothing to make up the difference between used costs and MSRP

I find that color is the most fickle aspect of a bass for me. I have love affairs with certain colors but they fade quickly. Sound and ergonomics stick with me much longer. I've quit chasing color.

Wear rose colored glasses. I keep mine around all the time. They make me happier not only with my instruments, but my house and marriage and also enhanced.

If you wanted sunburst, you'd just have to buy the bass.
