G&L Basses - Why no love?

The Cars' bass player, Benjamin Orr used a MusicMan OFTEN. Ever since I saw them in the late 70's I wanted a MusicMan. I owned one and loved it. Stupidly I traded it for another bass. Wish I still had it....

Terrible necks. Stupid and bad sounding electronics.

Pretty much sums up my experience (I'd add noisy electronics as well -even after shielding all cavities-). Had an L1505 for a year while also owning my first Stingray5 and they're leagues apart. Same thing with a friend's L2500 I've thoroughly tested in several occasions (nowadays he plays a Stingray5 too). OTOH another friend has an ASAT guitar and it's the first thing I look around the house for when visiting him, plays and sounds amazing.

EDIT: according to G&L's website the JB5 model might have a neck closer to that of a Stingray5, might be a good starting point for future G&L creations aimed at us thin neck lovers.

Damn it.This thread is making me GAS for a natural Ash Tribute L-2000 4 string, with rosewood fretboard that is available at my local music store used for $499 Canadian. I should mention that it is light weight and has a great neck profile. Hmmmmmmm.

Yes. I flipped a 90s L-2000 about a month or so ago. Bought it for $355 from an ignorant pawn broker and sold it on the classifieds for a great price. Didn't last twelve hours...Managed to make $250 on the sale, and saved someone else about the same.

The L2K has become my favorite bass, my bandmates too. Extremely versatile with all the tones I can achieve from the electronics.
My Mesa Boogie Buster amp just loves the signal from the L2K, it's a lovely match.

I have a G&L USA M-2000 and a SBMM Ray34. Although not the top shelf Stringray it still sounds pretty nice with the rounds on it. Could use a setup but it sounds amazing. The neck feels thicker than the G&L or my Jazz basses. Compared to the G&L and Ray 34 I've lost that loving feeling for my Jazz basses and I'm thinking of selling them to thin the herd a little. I guess I really prefer that loud active sound over the pass JB pickups.

The quartersawn neck on the G&L feels so good, and looks so sharp. Thinner than the Ray34 and the action on it is low but not too low.
