G&L Club Part 3

On a slightly related note - what do you guys think of the G&L JB? I've seen a few reviews, and am thinking of selling a Pedulla thunderbolt to get the cash for a JB. Are they worth it? How does it compare to a new Fender J bass?

I regret selling mine. It played flawlessly. Just couldn't get down with the sound. I should have changed the pickups and dropped in an Audere. If you can find a used one and change the pups you'll love it.

I'm hoping it'll have boost/cut and a blend knob. Pickguard would be nice too. A tribute L2K with a jazz neck would be stellar!

So as of this afternoon, I now own TWO G&L basses. I bought a JB model in emerald blue with matching headstock.

I compared it against two Fender J-basses, a 62RI and the 50th anniversary J-bass. I didn't find either of them particularly appealing, and the G&L sounded thicker and more aggressive. I've already put some straplocks on there, changed the strings to DR Hi-beams, and removed the hideous tort guard (am ordering a white pearloid PG as soon as possible...).

Overall, it is an awesome bass. I am not used to passive pickups, and have never owned a J-bass, so there is a learning curve. It feels good to play in terms of the neck profile and on a strap. The tone is full & thick. It does not have the raw aggression that my L2500 has, but that is to be expected given the pickups. I'm looking forward to playing this live as well as re-learning to play a 4 string bass (I've played fivers for the past few years).

Does anyone make a bridge ashtray that does NOT have the giant Fender "F" on it? I would like to have a bridge cover, if it is possible.

I'll post some pics tomorrow - I am exhausted & going to bed now.

Dude, that color is badass....gotta love those "light turquoise/seafoam green" shades. I love my spalted, but your color rocks!!
