I ordered a tobacco sunburst US SB-1 with natural body binding back on the first week of May and just got a call that it should be coming in tomorrow or Saturday. So about 11 -12 weeks in my case. Psyched for it to arrive.

G&L Club Part 3

No pressure, Chebass & nanook...NOT! Teasing that you have it coming to you is a guaranteed setup for higher expectations from the rest of us. I can only assume that, since you're already seeing yourself as special enough to be in this fraternity, you will come through with droolworthy imagery, soon.
In the past week, I've picked up 2 absolutely KILLER basses, neither of which is a G&L (one in a trade deal on TB, the other a last-minute CL deal too good to pass up). I currently have 2 L2500s - one fretted and one fretless - and I'm thinking about selling the fretted L2500.
Here's the catch, the opamp blew out, so I pulled the preamp and rewired it to give me vol/vol and individual parallel/single coil/series (w/caps) switching for each pickup. It is amazingly versatile, but not stock. I still have the preamp and can easily put a new 4250 in it. I also just purchased an EMG BTC (stacked bass/treble) that I was going to install in it, but I might prefer to not install if I'm gonna sell it.
What do you G&L aficionados think? Reinstall the stock electronics, sell it as-is w/custom wiring and include the G&L preamp for the buyer to have, or install the EMG?
On a side note, I put a Nickel nut on it a while back and it plays/sounds fantastic. It also looks really cool...

On top of the natural body binding, I went with a #8 neck in rosewood instead of the stock #7 that comes on the SB-1's. Was thinking about a matching headstock, but decided against it.
I had played a brand new US SB-2 locally in the spring and I absolutely loved the #8 neck, that P pickup, and just the overall quality of the instrument. I wasn't a big fan of the J pickup tone and lack of a tone knob however, so after finding out that US SB-1's were available, I knew it would be just what the doctor ordered.

It is sitting at home - I picked it up yesterday. I'll get better photos soon - especially after my new pickguard comes in.

I saw an L2K in that color and I remember it being quite a bit lighter with a finer metallic grain. I like the looks of yours better. Sweet Bays!
Yes, I agree. My preference is more towards the JB-2, due to the extra fret, 6-bolt neck, and the fact that it will fit more varieties of stands, but that blue baby is one hellasexy JB. I can't see enough justification to get a US-made one (although there is something to be said for the PLEK process), so I can hope that a Tribute version gets made. I can always use another relatively inexpensive instrument for bar gigs.
I had a chance to play the new JB a bit last night. The bass sounds pretty decent. I played along with some music in iTunes to force myself not to just play scales or my favorite riffs. The 6th fret Bb on the E string is a little weak, but nothing insurmountable. The strings are brand-new (DR Hi-beams), so there is a bit of the new string over-brightness. I plan on doing a full setup tomorrow - the strings are currently a little too high (I use 7/64" at the last fret). I have a rehearsal on the 29th and a gig on the 30th, so that will be the first real test.
Once I decide that it is really my bass, I'll sand the finish off the back of the neck and coat it with gun oil. I did this to my 2500 as well as my 78 PBass and they feel GREAT!
How long does it take you to "tame" a brand new G&L? By this I mean - how long until it feels like natural to put on & play? Are you comfortable right out of the box? I struggled with my L2500 when I purchased it brand new in 2005, but now, after dozens of gigs and hundreds of hours - it is smooth, and feels like an old pair of running shoes.

Sounds a little high, doesn't it? Is the green burst an up charge? I've seen prices around the $1,400-$1,500 range.
I emailed about the Belair Green one they have with the rw board and pickup cover and they only wanted $1,400 for that one. I was looking for a maple fb, but green is not my thing.

I had called them the other day and they said they could sell it for $1800. The fellow I spoke to on the phone said it was upgraded with a graphite nut and something I thought was standard being a quarter sawn neck. I am pretty sure the Ash/Maple combo is an up charge.
