I never use the g-string so I'm going BEAD. I wont be able to properly slap but I don't slap anyway. I'll just get myself an SX jazz if I want to slap.
Do the MFDs still make the B string sound mmtge same? For instance, on an Ibanez 5'r I had back in the day all the strings sounded great until I hit the B. It wasn't floppy or anything just dull. More of just a muddy low thump than a real note.
The sound of a B-string has more to do with bass neck construction, neck/body connection, and the makeup of the strings. I used Sadowsky flatwounds on my L2500 Tribute and the B-string rang out clear, although it wasn't as clear as the E-string.
Not entirely sure, its not listed on the G&L site as a normal finish. It's like faded metallic blue. Looks awesome in real life, has a subtle sparkle in the finish. This this SOUNDS AWESOME. I believe the pots dirty because 2 of the knobs kind of cut out here an there depending on where they're turned and the bass itself
I find with the L-2500 it depends very much where you pluck the B-string. There is a sweet spot just in front of the bridge pickup where the overtone sounds just right. The string itself is also very important. I've settled on Ernie Ball Power Slinky, .135 guage, best one I have tried on this bass. Also watch your pickup height, too close to the strings and you get too much overtone.
I recorded again this evening with my L2500. We were asked to play a song for a soundtrack of a local film. Passive, treble & bass up full, neck pickup only, series mode, DR Hi-beams. What a great sounding bass.
While waiting for the drummer to record, I polished my bass & was surprised to find wear marks on the bottom (from putting on stands), wear from my thumb, and the odd dent and ding. While it is awesome that all the wear is natural as a result of being my main bass for 7 years, it still is a little upsetting.
On a completely different note...
Does anyone know where I can purchase a G&L preamp? I **REALLY** like the sound of my G&L and want to modify my Pedulla thunderbass to sound similar. I realize that construction and woods are different - however, it seems like I could get close with some Nordstrand dual coils and a G&L preamp assembly (volume / treble & bass cut + switches).
Any experiences putting G&L preamps into other basses? Where can I get one? How much?

My L2000 has suffered many of the same injuries since I've had it (starting with a nice thumb groove over the bridge pickup and now extending to several other areas). Nothing shows the love of an instrument like honest wear and tear, so I display it proudly!
As far as the preamp, all the controls are passive except the preamp itself, which is a simple active booster/buffer rather than an active EQ like many onboard preamps. The Treble control is identical to a tone control on any passive bass, and the Bass control can also be recreated easily using a pot that can be purchased from the G&L online store and a couple capacitors. The switches are also easily sourced on the net, if not directly from the G&L store. I'm not sure if G&L would sell you a prewired assembly including all the components, but you could try to contact them through the online store or through an authorized dealer.

Don't sweat those wear marks! Basses are meant to be played and it is cool that all the "relicing" on your bass is done by you over time!
I'm torn between Sunbeams, Lo-Rider (not sure between nickel or steel yet), or Hi-Beams. Any advice? I'm not sure if stainless would be wise since the bass runs so hot but I do enjoy a cutting tone. Hmm..
I don't think the preamp is that significant to the tone of the L series... You can play the L series completely passive and the tone will remain almost the same, just with a little bit less volume and less high end.
If you want the L series tone on another bass I think the best way to get close to them is by changing the pickups to the MFDs ones...
But if you really want one, you could try to contact them through their website. Since they sell the MFDs and other components there, you can probably get the preamp as well.
I like stainless strings but with MFD's, not so much. They aren't bad it's just too much treble and that much more difficult to dial back to a mellow tone if needed. Nickel will still give you a ton of zing if thats what you want.
