G&L Club Part 4

All of my G&Ls came stock with solid-shaft pots (including two brand new basses in the last 6 years), which obviously makes sense with the set screw knobs they use. Seems very odd!
Glad you got it taken care of so easily and didn't decide to replace the pickup (those pickups are the best P pickups ever IMO).

To be fair, I just sold a one-of-a-kind L2500. I was going through some fusion/jam session recordings last night with that bass strung up E-C w/Peavey Cirrus strings and realized it was *the* tone I'm always striving to achieve. Oh well, the bass is in great hands, so it's ok. Now if I could just get G&L to release an "L2600", I might be in trouble...

The SB2 is such a workhorse bass but the L2k has the sexiness. I too have sworn to never sell this bass and its crossed my mind as of late. I am so happy with the L2k that I am thinking that I'll never need to have another bass besides this one. But I'm being cautious not to sell it knowing the remorse that will surely follow.

Is that an ebony fretboard on the L2K? Looks really nice- I loved the feel of the ebony board on my SB-2 so much (oh that regret!). I usually hate white things, but that L2000 with the pickup covers and all is just DANG! That'd look especially hot next to a blacked out SB-2.

The split shaft pots were/are a temporary thing while G&L changes vendors and gets restocked. Currently shipping basses should have solid shaft posts.
For those that did get the split shaft pots, there is supposed to be a brass collar over the shaft so that the knob fit well.

What does the community think about the G & L Legacy model. I have an ASAT now and really love the sound. When I purchase a bass I want it to be one that I can Keep and it will appreciate in value. Will the Legacy appreciate or will it have a negative stigma because it wasn't one of the models designed by Fender himself. It sounds great and feels wonderful.
Honestly, I wouldn't think that would be one of the G&L basses I would see as an "investment" piece as it is basically just a P-bass (unlike the SB-2, which is more of a G&L super-P-bass of sorts). If you like it though I wouldn't worry about it- the cool thing about some of those G&L models (the JB-2 as well) is that they can sometimes be found for great deals on the used market. If you really concerned about getting a G&L that is more likely to increase in value over time, I would look at early '80s L1000s and L2000s and discontinued models like the Interceptor, El Toro and maybe the early "student" versions of the SB-1 and SB-2.

Thought I would post my family photo. 1981 L-1000 modified to a L-2000 by Mike Lull a few years before I bought around 1990. My main bass since then. My L-1505 which I use for all my fiver needs. All next to my trusty GK 700RB-II atop of my pride and joy, the fEARful 12/6-12/sub. Some made in the USA Thunder!

Ok, so I know this is a site for bass.
And I have already posted my two G&L basses on the 2nd page of this new club thread.
BUT, I just took delivery today of this amazing G&L gem.
I ordered it from my favorite G&L Dealer " Guitar adoptions" in the mid west.
Even though it is a geeetar and not a bass, I wanted to post this baby.
It is amazing and plays like butter!!
Now I just need get my fingers to play the 6 little strings like I can play the 4 larger ones and I will be all set
G&L sure does make some amazing instruments for sure!!

Was hesitant to post a guitar in a bass forum. but figured it was G&L American Goodness and was kinda pumped about this ASAT Classic showing up on the UPS truck.
Always been a bass player and only tinker with guitar here and there.
Never owned a high quality American made guitar...only basses.
So saw this one and sold off a few cheaper Korean guitars to help raise the flow to buy this baby.
This is a keeper for sure!
I had a Tribute ASAT Special guitar for quite awhile that I loved- I'd really like to hear those more traditional Tele-style MFD pickups!
I was kinda on the fence about getting heavily invested in a guitar in the first place honestly...
And more so in the case of a tele style.
I only had one tele style in the past and it was with the P90's.
It was a squire too.
But man O man, I plugged this thing in when it arrived today and it blew my mind the tone the G&L single coils put out.
The bridge pup has a mean crunch tone to it...And the two combined wail also.
And that is just through my small 112 VOX.

Yeah, for a player, the economics of a G&L work out well b/c you can get a great bass for cheap. Carvins seem to be similar, in that they are decent American made instruments that have crap resale value.
In general, buying basses for investments doesn't make a lot of sense to me b/c even if you get a super-duper great deal on a 60's P-bass in great condition (say, $2,000) and sell it for triple that (a great return), you still only have $6,000. Not enough to retire on. You'd have to do that over and over and over again to really see value. I don't have the seed money to do that even once, so I will continue to shop for the deals!
