OK, hopefully the attached pic works! Just picked this L1000 up today. S/N on the neck plate makes it an '83, and the neck is marked April '83 as well. There's no number on the bridge, though. I love the color, its a pearl white that is pretty well worn. Here's a question-when I pulled the neck, I saw that the finish in the pocket was pink....is this the usual base coat? The finish in the control cavity is white. Maybe a refinish?

'83 was a transition year. The bi-cut neck was phased in, and the lawsuit headstock phased out. Black krinkle hardware, serial number moved to the neck plate.
I have a white (not 'pearl') '83 with the old headstock and bi-cut neck. Kinda rare neck configuration, haven't seen another like it. Curious about yours, what neck configuration do you have?
Chef, I can't believe you let your L1000s go. Please tell me you still have your single coil SB1s. Oh and can I get a club # from whoever's in charge here? This is my brand spanking new custom SB1

I don't have any of the single coil SB's anymore.
I don't have a G&L anymore. Feels weird; after owning several at a time since 1981.
But, I wasn't using them, and I could tell they didn't like that.
So, they went to guys that will use them.
I imagine they're happier.
I do have two P basses with G&L MFD P pickups though.

I had it posted here, and on CL, for some time.
It ended up going to a local guy here who'd always liked it he'd heard me play it, and had been out of the G&L thing for quite some time, and, didn't know G&L made such things.
So, it went to a good place as well.

I made my first G&L purchase last week, a used Tribute L-2500 in Blueburst with a Maple fingerboard.
I bought it from GC's used gear site and picked it up at the store while on a business trip. When I saw it online, it had "just arrived" and was bargain priced, so I jumped on it without hesitation. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out it came with a molded hardshell case!

The neck is a bit narrower and thicker than my other 5-strings, but it's a nice alternative.
I'm still coming to grips with having a pickup selector switch instead of two Volumes or a Volume and Blend. During the rare occasions when I use a bridge pickup, I usually add just a little bit. I suppose I could lower the bridge pickup height to achieve the same effect since I don't use one solo. If anyone has any suggestions of an alternative method to achieve the same result, please let me know.
If someone is assigning club numbers, I'd be honored to have one. Thanks!

Wow! That looks just like mine! (only my fretted has that "wood" binding thing, but my fretless looks just like this) That is one amazing bass. I made mine even more verstile by installing the (single coil) "K-mod" and also adding the OMG mod as push-pull on the treble knob. Mine also uses a TRS cable for phantom power, but then if you want active you have to have modded amps to deliver the power too.
One SWEET bass. Both of mine are truly amazing instruments.
Now on the subject of inlays.. are abalone standard? (I HATE abalone!)
G&L doesn't use real inlays, that's plastic meant to look like dark pearl. They use white pearloid inlays on rosewood and ebony, and dark pearloid on maple for the visual contrast.
It specified on the spec sheet 'abalone inlays' though.. Regardless, I couldn't stand em and the bass went yesterday.

Well I pull the trigger on having my ASAT Fretless re-wired. Love the bass....but can't stand only having a pickup selector switch only. Don't know why G&L uses that over a blend control.
So I am having the treble and bass control combined into one stacked control knob. Kind of like the bass and treble control on my Sadowsky.
Than the remaining two control knobs will become the front and rear pickup volume controls. So when done I will be able to blend the pickups rather than just selecting just one or the other...or both full on.
The pickup selector switch will remain functional.

Will do! I'm curious where one would find a stacked pot with the proper values and tapers.
The guy working on it is a master tech here in the area (owner of Palm Beach Guitars). He does incredible guitar/bass work as well as on amplifiers. Most of the pros that come into the area on tour....when they need work done they call him! He once worked on Larry Carlton's amp after a roadie dropped it off of a truck!
He is the only guy I would trust with my '72 Jazz as well!
