G&L Club Part 5

Just got my first G&L, an ASAT in blue burst, like it alot.. not keen on the maple board or abalone inlays, but the neck is easily replaceable.

But boy.. can you say punchy.. punchy and very hot, not sure why people complain of neck dive though, this sits perfectly horizontal on my strap.

Now on the subject of inlays.. are abalone standard? (I HATE abalone!)

And this neck.. theres nothing on the spec sheet about quarter sawn.. but is this quarter sawn? sort of looks it to me..

my latest find: '83 L2000. It's in really nice shape and sounds great; more mellow than my '07 L2K but still thumpy. The white finish is worn just enough on the arm contour to show reddish through the finish (you can just make it out in the 2nd pic), and I can see red in a couple of small chips, so I am thinking the body is mahogany:

Played in the church band this past Sunday. After 2 morning services and an evening service, I was spent and ready to get home. As I jumped down off the 3ft stage, I heard someone behind me yell "JERRY!! JERRY!! NOOO!", but it was too late. My momentum was unstoppable. I felt the instrument cable wrapped around my foot, the tug of the cable as it yanked my bass (1984 SB-2) out of the stand followed by the THWACK sound of it slamming completely flush onto the wood floor. There were still people milling about and I heard them all say "OOOOOOHHH" at the same time. Nightmarish.

Very happy to say it was only knocked slightly out of tune. That's the first and hopefully last time something like that happens to me. You probably don't remember, but this is the same bass that was stolen out of my house 2 years ago and recovered several weeks later. By far my #1 bass.

Glad that's all that happened. It does have Fender lineage so it should be able to take a beating...
