G&L Club Part 7

$11/hour? No, as the minimum wage in Orange County, CA is $15/hour. As you can get that for working in a McDonalds, I seriously doubt that skilled workers at G&L are making that or close to it.

No not G&L....EBMM. Someone posted recently about an alleged job offering at EBMM supposedly for $11 hr. If true, made me wonder if they're hiring part time, "occasional", or "seasonal" employees to duck under min wage regs. Not to mention a benefits package.

Either way, I don't think G&L's issues are wage-related. I suspect the problem (to the extent that problems exist there) is at the management level. Especially after dealing with their "service dept" a few months ago. What carnival that was. Never again.

There were things I was taught growing up, such as "You don't do things right once in awhile, you do them right all the time," and "Fifteen minutes early is on time", "You don't miss work because your little toe hurts", not to mention Faith, Family, and Friends before yourself, and the Golden Rule. All these things are disappearing quickly, too quickly. Damned if I'm not turning into my grandparents with as many times as I've said "Kids these days...."

OK, here's my G&L story.

In November I bought a JB Tribute in beautiful condition with a hard case included. This was a used bass at a pawn shop about 200 miles from home.

Got it home and was checking it out, and found that to (almost) intonate it I had the saddles almost falling off the front of the bridge! I could NOT get all the strings intonated properly. I wanted to change strings anyway, so I did and the situation didn't improve.

I did some web surfing for discussions of that bass model, and found a discussion of G&L JB tributes which mentioned that some of these basses from Indonesia came out with the wrong scale neck...21 frets instead of 20. Evidently it was a screw-up at the factory.

So I checked the neck, and sure enough, it had 21 frets.

Here's the good news - I called G&L, and the tech I spoke with said essentially "Yes, we know about that. What's your address?" He did ask for photos, too. And in about two weeks I had a brand new 20 fret neck in the mail, no charge. No need to return the original neck, either.

I drilled it for the body, switched the tuners and hardware over, and mounted it. Success! Now it intonates nicely . The neck is slender and easy to play. Now it's just as nice a bass as I hoped it would be.

Well done, G&L. Full marks for customer service!!

After reading about the issue with these necks I pulled mine out of the closet (where I had put it because it wouldn't intonate and was waiting for me to sell it) sure enough 21 frets! I too contacted G & L about a month ago and they sent me the proper 20 fret neck which I switched over and everything is as it should have been..thanks for standing behind your product G&L, love it now!

Delighted that it happened for you.

That's exactly why I posted - I figured there would be a chance that someone with the same problem might read that post. Of course, I also wanted to give credit to G&L.

Hey everyone! I'm a complete newbie that just purchased their first bass, a G&L Tribute JB-2 which was shortly paired up with an Ampeg RB-112. I also have my eye on a G&L Tribute LB-100, but I'll pull the trigger on that once I've wrapped up a few bass courses. I do have a few questions about setting up the bass correctly as I have no idea how well it's setup at the factory. I think the best option for me right now is to find a local guitar tech to check it out. Looking forward to hanging out with you all!

Hi all! Couple of days back got a G&L L-1000 (2020) in Natural Ash colour off my local marketplace!

Am also a beginner started late last year, but didn't have time to practice/casual jam (simple pop/rock songs cover) with friends in recent months due to new apartment's renovation, hopefully will be back to that once the apartment finished renovation and happily setting in to the new place!

Hi, welcome to TalkBass, @punkyb! Play it in good health.
Here's my '96 SB-1:

Hey @winston! Thanks for the warm welcome, and wow that's a lovely SB-1! I considered an SB-1 but I couldn't find one in Switzerland. I ended up with the JB-2 which I like very much. The build quality/workmanship looks very good for the price. Browsing through this thread however it seems that there are QC issues that come up. Hopefully I didn't get a lemon. :)

Hello.

I just bought a brand new G&L bass from a dealer. I had a question about the bass, the dealer suggested I speak to Memo. Memo of course is not returning my calls or answering his emails after several weeks and tries, although this is a brand new bass under warranty, just a few months old, I'm the first owner. I'm not surprised, I've dealt with G&L QC issues before as well as their customer "service". I love G&L products. I hate how they couldn't care less about their customers and seemingly have no pride in their products, once they have customer's money. I know this isn't everyone's experience, but it has certainly been mine.

It seems that some people have actually gotten through to Memo on occasion. How did you guys do it? Is there a way around this guy at G&L if he doesn't answer calls or return emails? Is there anyone else there who deals with customers once the bass is bought?

Here is the email I tried - [email protected]. I know I had the right phone number, because I got his voice mail stating his name.

Thanks!

What's your question? Harassing one person (not even using a glguitars.com email mind you) about a random question you have and declaring "I hate how they couldn't care less about their customers and seemingly have no pride in their products, once they have customer's money." is a pretty entitled attitude.... Why can't you just ask your question through the standard avenues everyone else uses? Contact Us

Why would Memo and only Memo have this information, and why is he obligated to drop what he's doing to answer your question? Also, why are you trying to confirm the contact info here to continue harassing the dude instead of just asking your question? Talkbass is one of several corners of the internet with tons of super helpful folks and a wealth of knowledge.

I don't mean to sound rude but this post comes off as insufferable....

Edit: I was kinda a jerk here. Sorry! IMO the dealer should be facilitating this instead of having the customer hound poor Memo.

Hi Lobster, I think you're being a bit harsh. When I had issues with my brand new JB5 I also was dealing with a bbesound email address. When BBE bought G&L I think they did a mass conversion. Per LinkedIn, Memo is the service manager.

This is fair. I understand who Memo is and what role they play, but this post reads as "I have question and I've asked one guy over and over again and he hasn't responded! G&L just wants our money. Is this the right email to continue to hound the dude?". It really rubs me the wrong way. I apologize for my harsh tone. This scenario is one I've dealt with professionally and it's incredibly frustrating (people harassing me for information readily available to everyone without even trying to look it up). I think it would have been better for OP to ask their question here and maybe inquire as to alternative (and maybe more appropriate/direct) methods of reaching out.
