G&L Club Part 7

Looks like there are a few things that G&L could do better lately. And I've just received my LB-100 which is a great bass. But reading various comments makes me wonder about their QC.

Unfortunately I'm also wondering about the QC. Most of my G&L instruments have been absolutely perfect, but my newest, a 2022 Legacy HSS guitar, has a couple of issues. First, when the humbucker is split, the wrong coil is active so it isn't hum-canceling when paired with the middle pickup. Second, the high E string is a little too close to the edge of the fretboard IMO, so it occasionally falls off. This is not a huge deal; I've adapted and it might be within spec. But my 2015 Comanche has the same Modern Classic neck and does not have this issue, which is visible when placing the necks side by side. It might be fixable by loosening the neck screws and changing the neck angle slightly. I hope so, because in theory this is a "lifetime" guitar.

Rather than go through the nearest reliable G&L dealer for warranty repair, I've brought it to my excellent local tech, who recently moved his shop and is now within walking distance of my place. If he can't address the neck issue, I might take that up with G&L.

This has to do with G&L and it also doesn't.

People don't have pride in their work anymore. And those that do are often pushed so hard by others that only care about profits that they can't do quality work anymore.

Anf this is why, in my opinion, there are QC issues like we see in our new G&L basses. Because most of these issues can be remedied by people who care or who are allowed to care. By people who want to do quality work and are allowed to.

Maybe, but I also think they may have gotten way behind in the last couple of years due to world circumstances and have been rushing to get caught up. Things get missed when people get in a hurry. They just do. If they're willing to correct mistakes I'll feel better about it. That said, I just passed four months in my wait for my build to order bass, it might be several more months until I get it, and I'll be annoyed if something's wrong with it.

Me ol' mom used to have a saying: "More hurry; less speed."

Hurry can lead to mistakes, slowing things down. And worse yet, the mistakes can go unnoticed, creating problems with consumers. A wise woman, me mom.

Not disputing your opinion, in any way, shape or form... I think their QC issues have been going on for a while, now... i.e. several years.

Yup, I agree with you. But the dynamic that I was mentioning has, in my view, been going on for a while in our society. For several years, for sure.

They're in a quandary, though. They need the money from special orders plus the Fullertons and Tributes stocked and sold by dealers. They're really a small company, and in the employment atmosphere of today, where do you hire additional employees you can trust to do quality work?

Maybe G&L management should take a field trip over to EBMM to see how they're handling things. Reportedly, some of their employees earn a stout $11 hr (is that true?). Which in Cal, is almost enough to get a kitchen appliance box to live in. Yet, there they are, still churning out their usual high-quality product.

I live 5 minutes from g&L on the fender ave.
