Online, the price of a Fullerton Deluxe Kiloton in stock is $1,955. That's one of G&Ls simplest basses--one pickup, no preamp. I'm not saying they're ripping anyone off. I know every expense they have has taken a huge jump in the last couple years, and I certainly hope they make a profit so they can stay in business. But to simple players like me, 2 grand is still a lot of money. Of course, that's why they make Tributes and why places like Reverb and Ebay exist.

My favorite bass (possibly!) is my Tribute LB-100, into which I put a split coil MFD just for grins.

That's becoming a common mod for those "in-the-know" about MFDs.

Side thought,
While I know Fender failed with their "S-1" switch the did (switches the P to parallel, or the jazz to series), I bet an S/P switch would work well with an MFD P.

When I first got mine, I discovered MFDs had ruined me, and the LB-100 was alnico equipped, so I was disappointed. So I dropped a Seymour Duncan concentric active 2-band EQ into it. That made a huge difference. Then as an experiment, I pulled the MFD out of my SB-2 and put it into my LB-100, mostly just to see if the preamp could handle an MFD. Not only did it handle it, but it sounds spectacular. I left it in the LB-100 and bought a new one for SB-2.

Very cool.

I know a small handful of folks have added/swapped preamps in G&Ls, and gotten favourable results.

This worked out better than I ever imagined since I was thinking of it strictly as an experiment. The toughest part was squeezing a battery in because I don't have equipment to rout a hole in the back for a battery box

If you are looking for the case G&L ships with their basses, I would not. They look great but protection offered is not particularly good. I swapped the one that came with my JB5 for an SKB iSeries case. The one G&L shipped with it is in my attic somewhere. I am not sure what is available near you, but you should be able to get comparable or better from SKB, Gator, or TKL.

My guess is that if you can live with lined fretless, go get it.

(I am out on lined fretless because I would be constantly staring at the fingerboard. I lived with one for a brief time and found the lines to be terribly distracting.)

I bought my SB-2T in '19, and they were using G&G, at the time. The case was flimsy, poor quality (IMO).

Something definitely changed with them over the years... I purchased a G&G case for my Highway One Jazz ('06), and that thing is a tank.

Complaints were registered with G&L, but we all know how that goes... I do think either a new case vendor, or using gig bags, was being talked about, as little as a year ago.

I still have the one I got when I bought my Tribute L2500 and it seems solid enough but I don't know what year it was produced because it didn't originally come with the bass. Upfront just included it in the sales price and shipped the bass in it.

That's the primary curse of the Tribute Series. G&L falls short of offering a few more finish options than they do and some of the options most could probably do without.
