G&L Club Part 7

They might if they follow through on their instagram comments. They have hinted that they may do a 5 string SB1 on several occasions. Noting that most of the time they refer to it as 5 string SB1 and not as a return of the L5000. I assume due to the lack of popularity on the L5000. That said, I hope they market it as an L5000 as it fits in line with the return of the L1000 and the CLF Research marketing. L5000 is a great bass if you can handle the 15mm string spacing. If they remake it with normal G&L string spacing options, they will sell.

The fact that it's only a 4 has kept
me out of an SB-2 so far. I prefer 5's but I find it hard to find 5s set up the way I like them. Best I've found so far are my StingRay 5's & an Ibanez SR-1205 (cool
bass - its a shame I didn't keep it!)

A 5 string SB-2 built with a slim & fast neck might prompt me to open my wallet once again!

Sheesh, good thing I'm not in the market for a new G&L! My 2019 L-1000 and 93 SB-2 will scratch my itch for now... until I can afford a LB-100 Tribute!

In the meantime, I did this last night on my L1K, hope you enjoy!

Great stuff! Loved your playing and loved your tone as well. :bassist:

I'm feeling kinda sleepy. And relieved. And pleased.

As we know, none of G&L's metallic colors help the photographer — my first attempt of this came out looking black. So this rubbish photo is as good as it's going to get.

A Dimarzio Model P and some Pro Steels will be added shortly, but I'm just going to enjoy the bass stock for a while.

Greg fitted some GHS Boomers for me — exactly the same strings that felt and sounded weirdly pathetic on the SB-1 feel and sound great on the LB-100. I'm very pleased that the two instruments have such very different characters. The LB-100 is even lighter than the SB-1 — 7.0 lbs, quoth Greg.

Random thought: I know that G&L use a particularly pale supply of maple, but their "vintage tint" really isn't. It is nice, but there's zero sense of the richness that the passing of time might have supplied.

Street prices Mar 2022 / Jan 2023

LB-100 — $1400 / $2450
Empress — $100 / $100
Quartersawn — $100 / $100
Pearloid — $50 / $0
Gloss neck — $150 / $150
Total — $1800 / $2800

Last February, knowing that prices were more than overdue a rise, the moment I had some financial good news I grasped the nettle and made a quick decision to get this upgrade on my Squier Matt Freeman P. Nice to have combined wisdom and haste, for once. Not my usual style :smug:

It's about damn time, Ricky. Do you know what it was that took so long? I'm really happy you finally got it. Play on, young man!

I'm saving that spec sheet!
Drop one string, make it Ash, give it tapewound strings and that may well be my perfect bass.

i have some good news for you! was just IMing with Greg at Rocket Music and he said graphite metallic is going to be a standard color the Kiloton 4 and 5 for 2023 on the Fullerton Deluxe models.

so glad you finally got your bass @Ricky Rioli !! It's a beauty, and I hope you love it.
I'm very pleased with it, but I know that it's reason for existing is to give this Model P pickup the best possible home — once I've got that and the Pro Steels fitted (and the action dropped to John Entwistle specs) then I'll be absolutely thrilled with it.

As it is right now, alnico pickup + friendly nickel rounds + my gentle touch is making a sound a bit too middle of the road — I think my playing + this pickup would be wanting flats — I can hear the spaces where the warmth would be very welcome.
