G&L Club Part 7

Damn man, I had a beautiful blueburst L-2500 (US), birdseye maple neck, that I traded away for ...

Ya know, I think I'll leave that part out. Why advertize what kind of idiot you are? Let's just put it this way, the deal was so bad - for me, I mean - that the guy drove back to my house, like days later, and slapped $500 bucks in my hand. What kind of guy does that? (Answer: A Canadian.)

Yup, that was the second worst trade I've ever made. THE worst was when I traded away a vintage Fender Precision Deluxe (original, "doublewide" humbucking bridge pu) that:
  • A. I flat out LOVED
  • B. I would KILL for today
What did I get in return, you ask? Why, the aforementioned L-2500! You know, the one I let go for a song - and 500 bucks. So... Anybody wanna make a trade?

Afterthought: I'm realizing people are probably wondering why the hell I traded away the Fender P(D) in the first place. The answer: Five..String..Fever!

Yes indeed, I decided I needed to play 5 if I was gonna be a respectable Soul/R&B player. (Like when - the HELL - was I EVER gonna be a frickin Soul/R&B bassist?!! Our definition of the dream gig was playing Top 40/Classic Rock from Yesteryear for corporate D-bags drunk enough to dance in front of their execs. Laughable. (Me, not the corporate D-bags.)(Okay yes, them too.)

Anybody else, who grew up on 4, and still happily playing 4 today, ever come down with Five..String..Fever? Did it make you do something (as) stupid? Or worse, as STOOPID?
LOL.
I've added a few 5ers, not because I have or have had or ever will have 5 string fever, but because I joined a group the down tunes to Eb. I refuse to do so; therefore a 5er is a necessity for me.

Like you, @Remguy, I am really a 4-string player, but I like to keep a 5-string around just for those times... I have two right now, but I'm getting one of them ready to sell, a little Steinberger Spirit XT-25. It's great because it's a 34" scale bass that plays like a short scale. I had to put an EMG BTS Control active EQ in it to get it to sound good, but it plays better than any 5-string I've ever tried before. However, it's been replaced by a Tribute L2500 that I modded so I can put either/or/both pickups into single coil.

I have a question to those with a Saddle Lock 5 bridge.
I have a G&L L2500 neck and MFD 5 string pickups from a Kiloton.
My brother in law is building a body and wants me to send him a bridge, he's in the US, I'm in Europe.
What's the spacing on the original G&L bridge?
I'm thinking to get a Fender HiMass, but they come in two different widths.

Note that the G&L bridge requires routing, it's not flat on the bottom.

It seems I remember that at some time in the past couple years, somebody mentioned a good website for a company that did neck repair. I recently traded a virtually new Tribute Comanche guitar for a Fernandes 8-string bass from the 90s. The Fernandes has been hanging on a wall for about 10+ years, and unbeknownst to me (or my friend who traded it to me), the truss rod in the neck has run out of room and the neck also looks a little twisted. Does anybody know what that neck repair website is? I Googled for guitar neck repair, but had no luck finding the website I remember looking at a while back (when I didn't need neck repair, naturally).

you thinking of FIX AN INSTRUMENT'S WARPED NECK?

Thank you, I'm aware of that as I've done a G&L build, I'll be getting a cheaper aftermarket one, as there's no used G&L ones for sale.

The enquiry is more about string spacing for the 5 string MFD and G&L bridge, so I can buy the correct bridge.
The string spacing on my 2013 M2500 is 17.5mm. I hope this helps.

Is anyone else here checking this bass out?

I saw it on Reverb but grabbed the shots from the Bass Place in Seattle. It's kind of a fantasy bass for me
If I was gonna spend that on a bass I'd want to try a smaller maker though.
It doesn't seem like two MFDs in a j should cost that much.

I used my L-2000 in passive single coil mode with both pickups on, so it is tone you can achieve as long your L-2000 has the k switch for single coil operation.
