After having owned a L2500, an M2000, and a Kiloton you can count me as another huge fan of M Series Basses. As much as I enjoyed the Kiloton and the L2500 there's just more of what I wanted tonally from the M2000. I favor it's neck profile over the narrower neck of the Kiloton and the active electronics over those of the L2500. For me at least it's become my "Goldilocks" bass......just right.

I became a G&L (USA) owner today. A mint swamp ash and maple CLF L2500 from 2022. I'm in the UK. I have previously owned an L2K Tribute that just didn't gel.
There seems to be a problem with the electrics and I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar issue.
The bass cut works fine. The treble cut doesn't. If I rotate it while playing a note there's no discernible change in tone in parallel. Something mild happens in series but it's not as I'd expect. Trying all the combinations gives a similar outcome, sometimes there's a little something going on but not treble cut as I'd expect.
Also dropping both tones by say 10% gives a larger volume drop than I'd expect.
I'm planning on lifting the control plate and looking for detached wires.
With that in mind I'll search for a wiring diagram to make sure it's wired correctly.
The seller is miles away and it should be easily sorted methinks.

If you can get a shot of Deoxit in the treble pot, it's always worth an attempt maybe it'll help.
If I cut the tone controls a little on my L-2000, it considerably drops the output volume also.

If G&L is listening I would like to suggest they bring back the M Series Basses in both Fullerton and Tribute product lines with the specs just as they are in mine. I believe there's a market for them. I'd also like them to put a PBass size and profile neck on the Tribute Kilotons as well but don't expect that request to be honored.

My next G&L would have been a Kiloton 5 fretless but now the M-2500 fretless is back into consideration!

I hate to assign the term "one trick pony" to a Kiloton although it pretty much is that but much like a PBass that one trick is pretty astounding and can be for many very useful. FWIW I've also considered a fretless Kilo. But between the two it's kind of like the PBass vs JBass dilemma. One is never gonna sound much like the other. But a Kilo's mid forward nature may actually work very well as a fretless. I need to play one though.You're not helping
I've just been through the electrics and I've sent an email to G&L. I'm not an expert on electronics and I will look for a section on here to ask for help.

The bass is gorgeous btw.
It is in like new condition and the electrics seem to be original and not tampered with.
The passive treble tone cut control doesn't work. The bass one is fine. I also seemed to experience a slight loss of volume that resolved itself. I'm not certain about this but one moment I was turning up my amp gain because the bass output seemed low and the next I had to turn it down again and this was without altering anything on the bass.
I've had a look through the wiring with a wiring diagram to hand and all seems to be connected as it should be.
I've tested the potentiometers in circuit and the treble and bass tone cut ones seem fine at approximately 250K and 1M each and they sweep fine.
The volume pot reads about 2k ohm at the moment although it read 25k earlier. The swept resistance goes down, up and down through its travel.
My multimeter can read capacitance well on a loose capacitor but I'm getting no readings from any of the ones in the bass.
Given that my measurements are from components in circuit and may be affected by this, it seems the volume pot may be defective. I've tried cleaning all the pots with Servisol Super 10 btw.
Would a defective volume pot stop the treble tone pot from working? I know that these things interact.

IMHO all single coil JBass pickups should be noise free. But there is the option of replacing them with those that are. I've used Bill & Becky Lawrence/Wilde J45s in my Jazz Basses for years.

Probably not. I can do some work myself once I find out what the issue is. I've a mind to remove the volume put anyway and check it/replace it.
Didn't G&L unveil J-sized MFD's at NAMM this year? Maybe that's upthread here somewhere.
With reference my tone issue. An update. I've just disconnected all the pots and measured the resistance and capacitor values. Everything is good. The volume pot was obviously affected by being in circuit. I've just put the bass back together and it's working. The treble tone is doing something. It's more noticeable in series mode. It's not doing exactly what I expected (like a normal passive tone control) but maybe that's it? Sort of a very subtle effect. Just means I'll need to use the amp to get the old school sound?
