I've finally made a choice about a second J pickup for my ever more oddly-modded SB-1.

Sitting in the Rickenbacker bridge position will be a Delano JC 4 HE/M2 - noiseless, blades, ceramic.



It should sound totally different to the Fralin in the J neck position.

Three-way toggle. Would be great if the middle position turns out to be actually usable, but I don't think I can reasonably expect that!

I inherited a 1980 L-1000 (my third wunkey!). Unfortunately the neck has gone south and is unusable.

Finding a stock replacement for one of these would be a challenge, but here's a twist: I find the L-1000 necks to be too wide for my tastes--especially at the nut.

My dream has always been is to own an L-1000 with a Jazz neck. Can anyone point me in the direction of an aftermarket J neck that would go in with minimal modifications?

I've not used one, but that's probably your best bet, and possibly better than a recent factory G&L neck.

It looks like you can get a single action truss rod as a heel adjust. I wonder if that's better than what they've been using recently.

If it's otherwise a keeper bass, then go for it! You probably won't recoup the investment, but if you don't do it for "investment" purposes and you otherwise love the bass and plan to keep it long-term, then do it.

The thing about the silver metallic that put me off a bit was the mint pg. I would have ordered a black one for it if I'd gone that way but I ended up getting the natural on swamp ash version. Whatever you decide is fine, as was said, it's your bass.

I've known for a while that I'm wanting to reverse the P pickup on my LB-100.

I've been umming and ahhing over two choices: (1) keeping the Fralin pickup, and moving the treble half to the neck side of the bass half (2) replacing the Fralin with the MFD from my Jazz-ified SB-1, and swapping the positions of the two halves.

Since I have traditional Fralin pickup in the modded SB-1, putting the MFD into the LB-100 seems both sensible and desirable

I've just ordered a custom pg. I've gone for a parchment one. Hopefully the warm off-white will tie together the deep Rudy Red Metallic finish and the still quite bright maple fb (the original pearloid which has a cool blue tinge failed in that respect)

Looks like an M-2000. My personal favorite. My first G&L (like most) was the L-2500. Yeah, I'm a 5-string player. I really liked it. So I decided to try a M-2500. I fell hard for my first M-2500. I needed more. I ended up with two USA Fullerton M-2500's and a tribute. So yeah, my stable host 4 G&L's.

Similar story for me. I started my G&L with an L2500 with a gorgeous ash body but when I decided to go back to playing 4 strings again I bought a very similar M2000. Also an ash body with a sunburst finish. I kept it and sold the L2500 which of course I now regret but I just found it easier to get what I wanted tonally out of the M Series and I'm normally not a huge fan of active basses. The M2000 is an exception.
