I jumped on a US custom Comanche on GC, but for a bass change I just picked up a US Hamer Monaco. The mahogany bodies are chambered, 8.4lbs.

From a TBer although he doesn't sell here.

Oh my aching holiday-headed credit card. Going to sell something G&L for part of it, but it's difficult to choose.

I don't measure - but my approach is I get them as close to the strings as I can without warbling or strings hitting the poles. Some folks go the opposite way, take out all the foam/springs underneath and bury them as low in the body as possible, but I like 'em high with as much output and raw MFD tone as possible. That has impacted what amps/effects/processors work for me as many have issues with that much signal.

Without strings depressed Im at about 5/32" from top of pickup to bottom of strings. I consider that medium height. They are as bright and loud as I could ever want. Some like to set them lower into the body to mellow out a bit or lower the output.

That's my favorite G&L Dealer. They are local to me and I think I have put a new wing on Jason's house over the years. :D Great shop. They also had a couple 5 string Custom Shop Matadors last I checked.

I saw that recently and really wish I had an appropriate outlet to use such an instrument! As cool as it is (for many reasons), I'm just not the guy that would play that in the particular places and groups that I mostly play bass in these days. Kind of a bummer.

New to this thread, so maybe it's already covered, but Sweetwater just has two very high-end G&L guitars left, all the rest of their G&L stock seems to be gone. Did they take down the listings, or did people just snap it all up when G&L went under?

Edited to add: GC still seems to have them in stock

(My favorite bass is my L2000 and my kid's favorite guitar is his ASAT, so sad to see G&L disappear)
