Would anyone happen to have a template for an 80's L2000 metal control plate? I did a search and couldn't find anything. If no one has a template, I did find a good photograph that I can fiddle around with and probably get to the right size.
I'm going to start a project with an 80's L2K body and preamp. As I can't order parts from G&L any more (RIP
), I will probably use some other parts I have lying around: a couple of MM style pickups, Hipshot Ultralites, and a Badass bridge. Then I think I'll buy an inexpensive Ebay 21 fret Jazz neck. What do you think? Any advice on of this project would be greatly appreciated.

There was a thread a few months back, where someone was trying to get a metal control plate for their Fender Precision, and cut the pick guard to fit.
I suggested trying to find a G&L / Music Man Sabre / Fender Troy Sanders control plate (the latter two might suit your needs), but in the end they found somebody who fabricated it for them cost effectively.
I can't remember who made it in the end (possibly someone on etsy, or AliExpress), but search for that thread - maybe through my post history - and you'll have a solid option.

I did find the thread you mentioned and read through it. It looks like the vender who replied had P bass specific metal control plates made for him, with no custom work. Some other users had custom work completed involving pickguard material, which may be a good option for me.
I went through various online retailers (including eBay and AliExpress) looking for premade steel control plates and the closest I could find were some four hole Stingray plates. Does anyone know if these would work on an L2K? I would have to drill 3 smaller holes for the switches.
Great basses when you get a good one. At this point if you have one with QC issues, the return policy is the best choice.
Plan of adding a second pickup to my SB-1 is moving slowly forward. Wondering how much space there is to play with in the control cavity for the slightly more complicated electronics.
First option is to add a three way toggle alongside the existing vol and tone pots. Pretty sure there isn't room for that
Second possibility, stack the vol and tone and have a three way toggle in the other hole. Do these take up more space than simple pots?
Last option, add push pull switches to the vol and tone pots for the pickup switching.

Alternatively, I could just have a separate little rout created for the toggle switch, Red X marks the spot:
That looks pretty close to the strings. Do you think you might accidentally bump it while playing? I've used pots with push / pull (or push /push) switches on several basses, and they work great if you can accomplish what you want with them. No extra routing and drilling required.
With the thumb muting the E string, I'm not sure my fingers could reach that spot even if I wanted to? When I'm home, I'll see if I can even reach the far end of the pickup....
This picture is better, and you're right, it's pretty far away from the strings. And it's an easy rout under the pickguard.
Yes, it had QC issues. It might have been fine/fixable but I didn't want to take the risk as shipping had been problematic. Single boxed, no case, had been somewhat abused.
A Jazz with just the neck pickup and a Precision body shape. To me, that's basically perfection. But somehow I have four Precisions...
I have a switch on my sb2. Works fine, but it's smaller. Mini toggle.
I have three Precisions with Jazz sized necks, one with a Precision sized neck and two fretted Jazzes with, er, Jazz sized necks. And fretless Jazzes.
It was a throwaway comment, though, that the photo was my dream combination but I've ended up with more bases than not which don't conform to it.
