F'n Temp. OK, I deserve that for the other post about ya, lmfao. Average lifespan here in southern AZ is 77.5 so that gives me 4 more yrs, give or take, unless one of my adult children smothers me with a pillow to speed up their inheritance. I'd peg that one around 50/50. o_O

I scored a 1981 L2000E lefty recently. It had a pickguard added which I removed. Battery cover missing - replaced (for now) by a custom pink tape cover. Everything works as Leo intended. Plays and sounds great. A bit heavy at 10.4 lbs. but worth it. Pics attached.

Hello! Looking to get my first G&L JB2 Tribute. What are your thoughts and experience about it? Looking for a budget beater bass where I can mod in the future and keen to go this route rather than get a Fender MIM jazz and the likes. I like the symmetrical shape of it too as well as the sound demos I've seen online.

I'm just surprised that they are cheap. Wondering how is the build quality and durability to those who still have it. Anything I should know of about before I pull the trigger? There's a brand new sonic blue one and a sunburst with maple board here. Pics of the sonic blue I can find in the net look too white so I dunno if its just lighting or camera quality but that's my first choice.

Yup. It's a shame the McClaren's didn't either bring in an investor with deeper pockets and more marketing savvy or pass the baton long ago and save themselves and this part of Leo Fender's legacy from the wrecking ball. But it's not as if many of us could not see it coming.

They're solid basses that use a pretty time honored design. One thing to caution about is that I don't believe other JBass pickup sets are a drop in replacement in that bass. You should check me on that though.

Overall any Tribute guitar or bass built by Cor-Tek will be of very good quality. For the last several years G&L was inspecting them in house before shipping them to dealers. Those with finish flaws were discounted and sold through The Store while others were repaired before shipping. I've had great success with Tributes.

I just had a set of Dimarzio Relentless J pickups with a push pull series pot installed in my 2021 Fullerton Deluxe JB.Had to rout the pickguard a little and put real thin foam under the pickups but it worked.The difference from the stock pickups to the Dimarzio Relentless J is night and day.WOW!!! No noise and lots of bottom real close to a P bass sound with a J bass vibe.I love it!

G&L's demise leaves me a little sad for now not knowing whether it's products will ever be resurrected by someone else but there is one silver lining that give me great joy. Never again will we ever see a video of Dave McClaren sitting in Leo's chair in Leo's office/workshop extolling the virtues of some Leo Fender innovation.

So many times I imagined the ghost of Leo Fender walking in on him saying put that down and get out of my office you little twerp. You don't know jack about what I did and why I did. Go run my company better like you're being overpaid to do. :laugh:

Thanks for answering the question in my head before I could ask it. I was just thinking about putting a pair of the Sixties (same housing as Relentless) into my fullerton deluxe jb. I have foam already, but pickguard routing scares me a bit. Especially knowing it'll be hard to replace that if I mess up.
