I missed that it had Alnicos and just assumed it was MFD's. That's a downer. My SB1 fretless has a jazz neck, hmmm...As to the 1st gen SB2's, one of which I have as a fretless, the way to go would be wired with a blend. I would think the Matador would benefit from that as well. Then again I think every G&L with two pickups would benefit wired with a blend.

I prefer blend pots as well, but this is Jazz controls - vol, vol, tone. The switch controls series/parallel for the neck pickup only. I've been thinking I should put a 3 way pickup selector switch and PTB controls in, that would give me passive treble and bass controls. I'll probably need that with the MFD pickups.

I'm really happy with how this one sounds, I'm a big fan of great alnico pickups and G&L's stock alnicos are very good!

Blends are where it's at. I'm beginning to think the used LB100 I tried from GC may have had the pickups swapped for something cheap as it was one of the most meh sounding basses I've had. I really like the Hanson P in my Lakland.

I've wanted one since they announced it, and I really lucked out with this one. The neck and fingerboard are roasted maple and it's light at 8.5 lbs, with a swamp ash body. Ash/maple is a great combo.

Hi everybody,
I've a question on early L2K colors.

I'm trying to determine the value of my old G&L and the only price guide I can find is on Reverb for "G&L L-2000 Early 80's Common Finish." Of course, they don't mention what colors they feel are common (or uncommon), and Google doesn't either. Can any of you experts steer me to a reliable source for this info?

If so, many thanx!

What color is yours? Folk will be able to tell you whether it's common or not.

Does it look anything like this pic? I should think the IC sitting in its socket in the middle is the op-amp. Remove the battery and carefully lift the chip from the socket. (Note this is not my photo and I have no L2K to test this so if unsure please wait for someone to confirm who has actually removed it.)

Hey there, thanks but I pulled out that preamp and mine is soldered on the board.
