I generally don't like LPB, but that bass is making me change my mind...
Sound will be near identical to US made L2500. Construction quality not quite as good as US, but still usually decent (though there are some that will have quality issues just like anything else might). Hardware and electronic parts (except the pickups) are of lower quality, but still perfectly usable. At a decent price, I would not hesitate to buy one if you have use for it. I have a recent ASAT Special Tribute and it is a solid instrument for the price range. I did find myself changing out the pots and switch. Factory ones worked fine, but felt cheap (because they were).

Yup, that's all correct. If you're willing to invest a bit of time and small money into some tweaking as above—plus maybe some fret ends, nut filing etc.—you can end up with a very nice instrument for *very* nice money. (And many times you'll be good to go right off!) The thing I notice most on my finessed Tributes (SB-2, JB-2, ASAT Classic guitar and Legacy guitar) is a thicker region where the neck meets the headstock. I suspect that's to account for more viable wood in a mechanically sensitive location. It doesn't bother me once I'm playing but when I pick up the instrument I think, "Oh, yeah, Tribute".
Ordered an L2000 Korean made Tribute in amber from eBay. I had an L2500 Korean Tribute in this finish and sold it when I gave up on trying to play 5 string. Then I explored Precision, Jazz, and Jaguar basses, but I keep missing the versatility and the muscular tone of the G&L. So I have been searching for an L2K in this amber finish, which is my favorite, but I could only find it on M2000/M2500 basses. Finally came across this one. 9.3 lbs. A previous owner removed the large older style "Tribute" logo and serial number from the headstock, only leaving the small G&L logo, but the "Tribute" logo bridge from the Korean model era remains. It shipped today, en route from Brooklyn to Central California. Can't wait!

I have a Korean SB2 Trib...I REALLY like it! Sounds great and very light too.
Post pics when you get yours...I haven't seen a lot of Korean ones. They are hard to find.
Gorgeous MIK SB2! Love the pearloid pickguard too. I have a cream colored pearloid pickguard on my American Special Precision. I have never played an SB2. I would love to try one out. As far as a PJ bass, currently I have a black Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar (the long scale, black painted headstock and rosewood/inlays fretboard model from a few years back) which I upgraded by replacing the stock Duncan Designed PJ pickups with Dimarzio PJ pickups. It has stacked VT/VT knobs. Just wondering how the Dimarzio Model P/Model J set compares with the G&L SB-2 MFD P/J set?

I'm a big fan of that amber/honey color aswell. Congrats!
Here is my somewhat modified L-2000 :
On a Fender "P Special" type P/J, you might well use the J pickup soloed. You wouldn't do that on an SB-2. The bridge pickup exists solely for blending with the P pickup as a tone/thickness control. It's hopelessly honky on its own. Whole different concept—but very effective.

It's because you usually bugger a couple of those lame, soft, steel screws that everybody supplies for J pups.
Slightly stronger than butter and a slightly odd head shape; not really a great fit for #1 or #2 philips.
Absolutely no idea, I bought her like that... And I had to ask my luthier friend to put frets again! But for less than the price of a brand new tribute I coudn't pass on a lovely '83 L2K!

Why, thank you! It was my first of four Tribs...I consider myself very lucky to have found Tribs that I have really enjoyed.
Don't have a USA L-2500, but comparing my USA 90's L-5500 to recent Trib L-2500, the only thing that I definitely will change out is the nut. Everything else is perfectly adequate after some setup and minor tweaks like a lil loktite on the saddle height screws.

I am thinking about getting a special order G&L. Not a custom shop necessarily, but I do want to choose some options, not buy something off a rack.
Have some of you shopped around and found a big price difference between dealers? I just wonder if it's worth shopping around.
