Interesting to see that Leo never seemed to be a fan of a pickup close to the neck like an MM HH has. I know he didn't do all of these basses before he died, but the ones he did do all had a pickup no more than halfway between the neck and bridge.

I stopped at Kenny's as many times as I could after meeting him. His shop was at least a couple times a year visit for several years. I would buy a few things (no instruments unfortunately) and spend a ton of time talking with him. Really cool guy.
There have been a few shops in Bloomington that have gone under over the years that I liked. I forget the name, but there was one that closed years ago that mostly did consignments. It was a regular stop for me, because you never knew what they would have. I have not been to Bloomington since COVID started so I have no idea what is left. Definitely not surprised to hear shops closing, unfortunately.
You should like your experience at the Greenwood store. Kevin is a good guy and has been in business for a long time. I have taken lessons there since I started playing (over 20 years now). I have also had good luck with repair/tech work from their in house luthier, Deric. Great shop.
Getting away from the ASAT looks, if G&L made a telecaster bass, would the older model sb-1 capture the sound?
wondering if anyone has a fallout tribute and could comment on them. I have seen reviews for the US model, but not manyfor the tribute. thanks
Nope, the SB1 mfd is in the P position.
And it's an MFD , the Fender Tele had a mudbucker by the neck.
I have been getting acquainted with mine. I owned several L-1000s, and this is just a compact version of that wonderful bass. So it's just what you expect tonewise if you're familiar with the Wunkay. build quality is top notch.
I'm referring to the earlier telecaster basses. The mudbucker didn't show up on the telecaster bass until '71. The earlier ones from '67-'70 were single coil per the early precision basses of 51-57.
Also it's possible to get the tone of these basses, though a bit hotter with the Seymour Duncan Stinger stacked single (a hum canceling pickup) which can be found in the Fender CS Dusty Hill bass. So the tone is not dependent on a single coil pickup.

That is on my "short" list forvmy second bass...no pun intended. Olympic white vs seasfoam is a hard choice
Could you highlight any tonal differences between this and the 1K? Is the only difference the shorter scale?
Not having the 1k's separate controls for bass and treble also.
sounds same to me and my old ears. I'd need a spectrometer to tell the difference. OMG mode is still OMG, and is always engaged for me.

I agree. I have an L1000 and an L2000 and feel I have anything the Fallout can do, covered. I went with a Sterling Short Scale Stingray so I could expand my tonal palette rather than duplicate it.
