THAT is the bass I want! Wonder what it would cost to get a Tribute customized that way...and where to do it...
Tremendous video Ed! (As always). Based on it, I have a new Launch Edition in Racing Green arriving today. Can’t wait to play it!

That is so cool - how does it sound? i am thinking of getting one of these to add a shortscale to my collection. does it sound good enough in a live-stage setting as well or is it more of a practice bass?
That's a beautiful bass! I considered getting one of these, but due the $1500 price tag for the first iteration (before Tribute model was out) and single pickup configuration, I went with a Sire U5 which is also a fabulous bass. Being a G&L I'll bet the Fallout is a crazy good bass.
This is the Tribute Version, sounds good, lot of versatility with the OMG switch, I play it as my main..but I am not a PRO player, and everyone's tastes differ, would just check one out somewhere or YouTbe them, hope that helps

Yes, if they'd been $599 (that is to say, had there been a Tribute version) back when I was ready to buy a short scale, I definitely would have considered this. I have a G&L L2000 that I've had 34 years so I am a fan of G&L. That's why I am sure it's excellent. But, as it is, I have the Sire U5 for my SS which is an amazing bass in it's own right, and I will stand pat with that. But anyone buying one of these Fallouts is going to get a very high quality bass! Congrats on yours! I like these so I check in here every once in a while just to hear the chatter and news about them.

That black/black/maple is gorgeous. I'm guessing you swapped necks on that one?
Yes I did, found a used one that was damaged bought it for the neck, still have the rosewood one
I'm sure I would have bought a black one by now if that was the stock configuration. Same with the upcoming USA models, if the shell pink had a maple board I'd be ready to throw the cash down immediately.
Actually...I'd like to see a short scale with dual MFDs but in bridge and neck position similar to a Stingray 4 HH...with the neck pickup just a little closer to the neck. Give me the deepest, warmest tones possible with that neck pickup without getting too muddy or scooped. But I'm a rookie so this could be a really bad design!
I do now have a L-2000 and a Stingray 4 HH....just looking to find a short scale similar to either in tone options.

I just picked up a new Launch Edition in British Racing Green last week. Built in April 2020, it's the highest quality production instrument I've ever played. The neck pocket is flawless, as is the paint job. The tone knob does a great job too. I prefer it to the separate L-1000 tone controls, and it's the first really usable tone circuit I've had. Pots are so smooth, and the neck is PLEK'd at the factory, and is flawless. There was a change somewhere between November 2019 and April 2020 where they moved the location of the stripe. It's more vertical, and the top of the stripe now aligns with the middle of the pickup vs the top of the volume knob. I prefer it to the original. It's as heavy as my p-bass was, 8.6 lbs, but balances perfectly. It also includes a nifty Certificate of Authenticity and Custom Build Spec sheet.
Many thanks to @edfriedland for the superlative Bass Whisperer demo of the Fallout bass on Youtube (see Ed's post above). It convinced me that this was the short scale bass I was looking for.
Tone-wise, it speaks with a lot of authority, especially in OMG mode. I did some research on the Magnetic Field Design (MFD) pickups, and found out that magnetic flux units are measured in Gaussian-Webers (Wb), and can be calculated using the OMNI system. As such, this extremely powerful passive mode might also be characterized as an OMNI Magnetic Flux Gaussian-wb circuit.

Enough talk about it though - it's all about the sound. I've heard the ideal bass tone described as round, punchy, warm, and clear, so-called "woman tone". This short scale bass is all of that in a pair of tight jeans. I was anxious to hear it an action, but due to COVID and surgeries my band isn’t playing, and I wasn’t sure where I could wring it out. However, due to fortunate circumstances we were able to get the FreakTrain Band together last week for one final jam in Pig Sty studio. We gassed it up to 105db during the solos (our SPL meter was taking a beating), and I'm impressed with how it stood up to the sonic maelstrom. It was in OMG mode with the tone rolled off a little bit. This was the only time I'll get to play it out - it's my last bass on the last song of the last jam in my last band. D.S. al Coda. I'm especially happy that I got to wrap it up with this bass, playing my favorite song from my favorite album - the 1975 Neil Young and Crazy Horse classic Zuma - Cortez The Killer.

Edit: I had a conversation with LaBella, and they said these were the strings used for the Launch Series: RX-N4D-S Rx Nickel, 45-65-85-105, Short Scale. I don't know if they’re different on the Deluxe or Tribute models.

You’re welcome! I LOVE my Fallouts! I miss my US one a little, the neck is sublime. The Tribute sounds just as good, but the neck is a simpler carve, not as inspiring. Interesting to see the different stripe placement on yours.. G&L historians will write about that someday! Both of mine are fairly heavy - never weighed them, but 9lbs feels heavier in a small package, eh? I actually like the weight for this bass, it gives me a feeling of being grounded. I played my Nordy Cat bass on a show, and it’s soooo light, I thought a stiff breeze might blow me off my feet. (Hyperbole alert).
