G&L L200 Disappointed

I ordered a custom brand new G&L L2000. It came and the action was so high, it was ridiculous. I sent it back to the factory and they put a new neck on it. Same thing. When I tried to get it set up, the guy who does my guitars told me the A string slot on the nut was too low and it would need fret dress to get playing right. I didn't want to send it back again so I told him to do it, which voided the warranty. It still plays horrible. I'm so distgusted. My '88 L2000 was a great playing bass but it was stolen. What happened? Did G&L change something in thier design? I just don't understand. I'm thinking about going back to the tech and have him set it really low anyway. Buzzes and all. By the way, the tech that I use is very reputable in the DFW area and has been doing it for over 30 years. So, I take him at his word.

I don't get it. If the slot on the A string is to low, why wouldn't you fix the nut instead of the frets? I've seen the nuts raised up by mixing some plastic particles with crazy glue and filling the offending hole and then re filing. Make sure to tape it off really well before gluing so you don't get glue on your beautiful new bass.

I'd get a second opinion.

By the way, if one string slot was too low that he says the bass "needed an entire fret dress". He could have simply filled that nut slot to get the string up to the needed level.
Sorry, I don't trust him. Find someone else.

Are G&L's not pleck'd from the factory? I fail to see how the frets could be problematic on such an instrument...

If the nut slots are too low - replace the nut, shim it or fill the offending slot. I think your tech is offering bad advice.

You're right--- they are: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

OP, looks like your tech owes you big time. He offered advice and voided the warranty on your brand new bass.

After finding a new tech that wasn't a moron, I would have taken it back to the dealer where you bought it and not left without one that wasn't 100% right.

What dealer did you buy it from?

But that's unfair to the dealer. This tech gave bad advice and made this customer, the OP, void his warranty. The only one who should be out of anything is said tech, not the dealer.

First...he never said that the tech addressed the frets to fix the nut issue. He said the tech said that 1. the nut was filed wrong on one string and 2. it would need fretwork to play well.

That aside I am not sure why filing some frets would void a warranty. Also I am not sure why high action required sending it back to G&L or why G&L would replace the neck. That seems like a setup issue most likely from a climate change in shipping.
