G&L L2000 Question

I’ve been reading a lot in here for some time but this is my first post. You all are hard on my wallet but I digress……

I am an old fart just learning bass from scratch. I’m playing a CV pbass and getting sort of ok. I’d like to buy another bass and have been thinking GL2000.

I’ve found what looks like a good deal used but it’s listed as a CLF. I don’t think it is. The headstock has the pointy bottle opener type thing rather than the earlier smoother style.

I called to inquire and the guy said well the serial number starts clf. My understanding is they all do now. When I asked about what shape it’s in he said there is still plastic on the electronics.

long post. Sorry. My question is how can I tell what it really is. I think it’s a good deal but I want to know what I’m really looking at. I do have the serial number.

can y’all help a brother out?

At the beginning of this month, I bought a brand new 2017 G&L Kiloton 5 with still the original undamaged film on the pickguard… NOS for: New Old Stock!
Serial number down below

If possible, ask the GC store for a copy of the build sheet, it features all the technical details for the said instrument and comes in the case with the Certificate of Authenticity. You cannot go wrong with an L-2000, even more so if it’s made in Fullerton.

Posting a link to the ad on this thread might produce an answer to which exact model it is (eg might it be a Fullerton Standard model, if it's from 2017? I've no idea, myself) and then a sense of how good a price it is. My suspicion would be that if they think it's a CLF Research model, they might be overvaluing it.

Here's an advert for a honeyburst L-2000 which will help you judge what's a good price for that 2017 one. It's $1900, has lightish Swamp Ash, and a quartersawn neck (both options that cost) and if you were to ask Greg nicely, you could expect something meaningful knocked off that price

This is the only L-2000 at GC that matches OP’s description:

The ad does not bring answers but the rosewood fretboard and the body colour (Tobacco Sunburst) + price and location, and it’s not a CLF Research model. Seems to have a 1.5” nut. Includes case and COA. Rated: Excellent.
Note all US G&L basses were still Plek’ed at the time (2017)

Makes sense. This isn’t a clf research model but that makes no difference to me if it’s a good deal.

I could just order and have it delivered to a store 10 minutes from me but if it’s not a smoking deal I can wait.

Decisions, decisions.

In my opinion its a little pricey but not way out of line. Looks pike it has a jazz size neck if you are into that.

If you dont like it you can take it back amd will only be out the cost of shipping which will be about $30. GC is awesome like that.
