The killer thing about the split MFD is that it really nails a vintage vibe when you roll back the volume....... to about 60%. Above that, and it starts turning into a monster. My '87 SB1 is one of those "I'll never sell it" basses. I recently started stringing it with rounds again, and it gives me a tone (with options) I can't achieve with a standard P..... the P tone is there, in spades, but simple tweaks of the volume and tone get you into some killer territory you can't do with a regular P.
Don't get me wrong, I love my '08 MIA P.... great bass!!!..... but it can't do what the SB1 does, where the SB1 can easily cop the MIA P's tone.
