G&L ruined my life!

Look on the bright side, your easily replaceable SB-2 goes to your gigs and makes you smile and your $$$$$$$$$$ to replace 66 Jazz stays home and safe.

You could always just break out the screwdriver and lower the pickups in your SB-2 until it's output isn't as powerful.

I have to Agree, ever since i got my USA G&L L2500 its all i have been playing at all my gigs, my USA Fender Jazz deluxe V, MY wasburn XB400 and My peavy T40 just sit alone in their case and never come out. i have never played a bass so powerful, i recently lowered my pickups, and that made the tone a little quieter and more smooth, at first i was trying make it sound like other basses and i felt a little buyers remorse but i still liked it don't take me wrong, but once i played it for what it was, and excepted it for its own unique sound, i fell in love with it, and now others basses sound thin compared to the G&L L2500, now i want an SB2, but like others i wish they had it in a five string.

You need to do the 'series mod' using a push/pull pot, on your J's. This will give you a much more powerful tone and the look doesn't change, plus you can put them back to normal if needed. You lose nothing & gain the series tone.

Im glad to see im not the only one who got that "problem" going to G&L...
I know i wont sell the jazz, they do sound better for slap and i dont want o slap on my 66 the frets are the vintage thin ones and i dont want to bust them so both of them will be staying here...
Its just really frustrating, now all i want is more SB2 and i barely play the jazz!

Instruments are tools of the trade. You found one that works better for you but doesn't have the name on the headstock that everyone gets goo goo eyed about. Why the "problem" and frustration?

You know how nervous cats can be gigging a irreplaceable vintage instrument?

G&L's are great basses. The SB-2 is a nice mix of P and J. Tastes change. I don't think you "need" to keep the same bass your whole life. Lord knows I haven't.

I've owned at least four G&L's over time. I'm generally a fan of G&L. My L-1000 was actually _TOO_ thick and wooly. It didn't cut through for me. I have been primarily using a Tokai P-Bass with an Antiquities II pickup for the last few years.

Yesterday I took a mental health day, bought a little cab at a great price, went home and played a whole bunch of variations of basses, amps and cabs.

My P-Bass has been "the one" for a few years now. My fretless with Barts has been a surprisingly strong contender, especially considering that I generally don't like Bartolini pickups. My 55-01 with Nordstrand DC's has been a bit of a sleeper. I haven't done much with it for about a year.

After yesterday, the rankings didn't change all that much but I did develop a much larger appreciation for the 55-01. So much so that I took it to a rehearsal last night that I would have normally brought the P-Bass to and loved it.

I guess that I'd recommend, like most other people here, I'd recommend playing your G&L for a long time. You might come back to your Jazzes with a whole new appreciation. Notably, the Jazzes will probably become the perfect bass for you the next time you're playing a cavernous "Hall of Mud". That P-Bass girth is often great, but sometimes becomes a liability.

Your SB-2 has that nice bridge pickup that may nullify this observation - Is the pickup selector a switch or can you control the blend with pots? Congrats - that's a great looking bass!

SB-2's are an incredibly round and thick sounding bass so that doesn't surprise me.
If it wasn't for their ridiculously silly looking headstocks I would own a few fo' sure.
That blue color is super nice man... nice score!

Definitely don't sell the Jazz basses. Another project might come along that they'll be right for.

If you want to keep playing the Jazz basses but give them some of the oomph of the G+L you might want to try the Seymour Duncan pickup booster pedal.

I too recently came down with the G & L sickness..actually unloaded my Fender Geddy that I've had for 5 years. I now own 2 G & L's and looking to score an SB2. I may be parting with the 08 MIA P as well. I may have a problem! Isn't that the first step to recovery? Seriously, I'm loving the G & L's !

Got this one about 6 months ago. Everything else except a beater MIM Jazz has been sold since then.

I actually never use the bridge pickup, or very rarely...
It doesnt have a blend, just two volume knobs!
No fooling around with an SB2, just volume and go for it, although you can get a lot of different sounds just by plying with the volume knobs, it really does work without a tone.

I need a new 5er and haven't ever played anything from G&L but want to so a L2500 is probably my next bass -- and I'm gathering it won't be my last G&L. That L2000 looks pretty sweet.
