Indefinitely. Denial, willful ignorance, refusal to accept reasonable precautions, and learned helplessness, (y'know, the usual way humans react to most crisisis
) and well understood disease mutation and propagation patterns can make this stretch out indefinitely.
Once the boat can actually dock, don't forget not enough railcar capacity to remove the containers from the docks, and not enough chassis and truck drivers to deliver the containers to the final destination. Of course, all of that is IF a shipper can get a container onto a ship to begin with, due to lack of available space and empty containers.
A big part of it is a complete lack of worldwide demand for months, followed by an extreme surge. A lack of available air cargo space due to lack of international flights pushed even more shipments to surface methods.
It's affected stuff you wouldn't even think of, like certain racing tires in the Northeast, and is expected to affect Christmas toy supplies.
It's all the same; unless what you want is wholly produced locally, you're just as dependent on the supply chain. It doesn't matter if it's basses, steel girders, milk, or drawing paper.
Everything is behind. I've had clients have to close down their manufacturing plants for weeks because they couldn't get the necessary raw materials. I have clients who have to order steel for a construction job 14 months in advance right now.
Everything is insane, materials, transportation, labor, etc. Bass guitars are the least of our problems. Be thankful it largely has yet to hit the food sector...

As someone that deals with raw and prepared wood for a living things are getting harder to get, distributors are hording at the hint of something not being fulfilled, if you're not in good with them then this is probably the response you'll get (not saying G&L is in this boat) - its probably a good time to look into other ideas and workarounds, temp or not

From what I recently read, the stressor that is COVID-19 has revealed fundamental structural flaws in the on-demand supply chain. The current issues are expected to persist long after the present restrictions in the developed world have eased—and with much of the developing world unvaccinated, brace yourselves for the variants yet to emerge. What affects our brothers and sisters in the rest of the world affects us all.
Even some of the cheapest instruments out there are using maple from Canada for necks and fingerboards. There's a huge shipping bottleneck getting maple boards out of Canada to the various worldwide factories right now.
Even Yamaha, who are a notorious wood hoarder, have stocking issues.

Is that a joke or sarcasm or something? Cause music instrument sales have spiked considerably during COVID. So, no.
I haven't seen a new G&L bass in a store for 20 years. I don't think they are too interested in the Canadian market.
This whole thread is doing me a favor...Ive been gassing for another G&L, probably a US SB2, but now I think I can restrain myself for awhile.....
No, its not a joke. Covid is an anomoly - a random variable that wasnt accounted for. How long of a lifeline this "bubble" gives the industry remains to be seen, but it needs to make up for a decade+ of waning interest. Otherwise, new students and instrument sales have been in a steady decline since the late 00s....Not sure of your age, but if you personally witnessed the music instrument business first hand in the late 70s, through the 80s, and early 90s compared to now, you should understand (Even the early 00s resurgence didnt compare to those eras)

I've been watching that site and they have not had many Tributes in stock all summer.
I own a high end remodeling company. I ordered a Sub Zero fridge and separate freezer in December. They arrived in July. One of our big lumber yards had to limit contractors to 25 2x4x8's per day. Thank God that's over.
I had a new g&l fallout, the pink one, fullerton model, loved the way it looked. Was impossible to get it set up, something going on with the neck, all saddles were bottomed out, and still ridiculous string height. Had to return, was very disappointed in a new g & l that cost 1300 dollars that couldn't be played..
They'll probably be $200 more than you're used to as well when they do arrive in 2022. Shipping rates for a 40 ft container have quintupled and they are not projecting those prices to drop until after Chinese New Year 2022.
You can fit ~ 20 standard pallets in a 40' container. So at $20k per container, it's roughly a grand to ship a pallet now when it was $200-ish. Basses usually ship in a 52" box, so they would have to stand vertically, which is likely better for weight issues on the bottom boxes if laid flat. Depending on the width and depth of the box, you can fit about 16 on a pallet using uline dimensions. Smaller boxes would probably allow ~20. So $50 is the ballpark estimate for shipping a bass from China to the US in a container. But it used to be ~ $10. And of course that isn't including fees and tariffs. I have no way of guessing what those might be or if they increased. Shipping costs in the US, as we know, have also increased, but not by the same amount. So there is about another $50-60 cost to ship a bass from China to the store in the US, conservatively. With the increase in other raw material prices, I'm going to stick with my estimate of a $200 price increase, possibly higher. There are a lot of middle men in the equation, each taking a percentage profit along the way.

We had to replace our fridge and dishwasher over the last year. We were really lucky to find something in stock that we wanted. About a 3 day wait for installation for the fridge, about a week for the dishwasher. I can live with that.
It took four months to get a replacement washing machine and from talking to my coworkers and friends who are in the midst of renovations/appliance installs, we got lucky.
