G&L vs. Music Man

I've had both. The Musicman instruments are way ahead of G&L in terms of quality and customer service. God forbid you have a warranty issue with a G&L instrument.

I completely disagree on both points.
That MAY apply when comparing a Tribute to a USA MM.
But not the US G&L's.
No way.

Having owned multiple of each, I'd say that G&L is as good, and considering that they have a custom shop approach to how much you can spec out the bass, I'd even go as far and say better in that regard.
They can offer all those "non-standard" options (multiple neck options, all kinds of woods) and still maintain a high quality as that of Music Man who just basically gives you finish and two fingerboard wood choices. Albeit, they also maintain high quality standards.
And with Music Man, order a painted body, and you don't know what kind of wood you may get- alder, basswood, ash.
Only the trans/clear finishes get ash.

As for customer service.......never once had an issue talking to someone at G&L.
Only time I had to call them was to get a wiring diagram for one of my L2K's.
About an hour later it was sitting on the fax machine.

Never tested the Music Man customer service. But my local dealer really takes care of his customers. So I can bet it would be a non issue as well.

Both are built EXTREMELY well IMO.

I personally feel the L-2000 is much a more aggressive and power tone beast then any string ray I've tried. G&L customer support is amazing, don't know about Ernie Ball as I've never actually owned one. I also like the G&L preamp more, it just adds more variety and to me G&L necks just are nicer to hold especially on the l2000.

Bongo 5 kills my G&L L2500 for my current sound at least(finger style, aguilar amp). I still am keeping my L2000 though. When I play with a pick in a progressive rock band with a GK2001RB and an 8x10, it's definitely better than the bongo. It's totally a different bass and way more aggressive. I know the bongo isn't a stringray but it's got that MM sound still.

Why do people worry and fret(pun intended) about which one is cooler?Im all about the sound,feel,versatility and value.IMO the l2000 is a far more versatile bass.If you are going to slap and pop EVERY SINGLE NOTE,go with the Ray.screw the cool factor ,ive been playing for over 30 years.A bass could be skybluepink with puke on it .If it plays and sounds good,im there!

If you're going to slap and pop every note, you're probably NOT working. Get the L-2000, and, by the way, it also has a great slap tone!
