G & L

I'm a fairly recent convert to G&L having bought a used mid-90's L-2000 last month. It is my favorite bass, hands down. The tone will make me drool if I'm not careful!:D

But, after all, it looks just like mine!:D

I love that bass, I'll tell you right now. It blows all the 4 stringed basses I've played in Windsor out of the water. I've never played a bass as good as this one. Its got so many knobs and switches I don't even know what to do with. Plus it's swamp ash and maple, the perfect combo. Ok, I have to stop gushing over my bass:D

I try not to dwell on what G&L's relative obscurity probably means about bass players in general (Sometimes our powers of reasoning seem stretched too thin - LOL). Personally, I'm enough of a Leo fan to want to know what I can about his design thinking - particularly the last designs he created. I guess it seems to me that G&Ls are what he was doing instead of knocking off his P and J and 'Ray designs. From all I've read, he thought he was onto something at G&L. And again - my personal view: No knock against the earlier designs, but I've never played a G&L that didn't wow me in some way. Can't say the same for Fenders or MM's.

I've wanted a L-2000 for a long time and finally pulled the trigger on one a couple of months ago when this turned up in the classifieds here at TB:

'93 L-2000. She's heavy, but it's worth it. I just put a set of TI Jazz Flats on and !!!

The only problem is now I want a JB-2 and an SB-2! :D

That is a purdy one. :) I like the honey and cherryburst colors.

That's right. I play a 51 P RI, a P, several J clones and the G&L. Every one of them is a terrific bass, and they just kept getting better as Leo developed his ideas.

I'm gonna talk myself into buying an L2.5K before I'm really ready....
