Gallien Krueger 115MBE question

The cabinet won't go near my MB210 until i get a response from RAG or someone else at GK. The Guitar Center was essentially clueless as to what the issue could be and they are blaming all of this on GK.

It blows my mind that a company as big as Guitar Center would allow a product to be advertised and sold on their website and that they would not have clue #1 about the real specifications.

Also, I have always been a loyal "GK Guy", but I have to say I'm not too thrilled with them either. How could they promote this new product on their site as 400w @ 8ohms - only to have completely contrary information in their product manuals.

Double-You-Tee-Eff, fellas??

I got mine last week from Musicians Friend....finally after 5 months on backorder. That story below, but here's my specs.

The sticker on the cabinest says: 200 watts, 4 ohms
The manual says: 200 watts, 8 ohms
Musician's Friend website says: 400 watts, 8 ohms

I pre-ordered this thing back in March. The combo has been around for a while, but I want to use my Alembic FX-1 preamp. I use a combination of Bag End 2x10, Bag End 1x18 and Acme 4x10, based on gig size. On a large gig, the Acme 4x10 stacked on top of the Bag End 18 is thunderous. I use a ton of effects especially octavers and synths pedals for a busy 80's cover band. On small gigs, the Bag End 2x10 farts when I hit the octave pedal, so to prevent the damage, I figured a small 15 would do the trick. I ordered the G-K in March, pre-order price was $225 with specs at 200 watts and 4 ohms. I wait till late August when it finally ships. By that time, the specs on MF site change to 400 watts @ 8ohm and price increases to $299. I paid $225 cuz I pre-ordered. Anyways, I finally get the thing and it sounds awesome. No farting, great highs and loud enough. I don't really care at this point what the true specs are. As long as it sounds good, I'm a fan. The best part was this weekend. After a show, my tiny 100 lb. wife sometimes helps by taking my bass and pedal board to offstage. I ask her to grab the G-K, she looks at me like I was crazy because she can't lift the Bag End and Acmes. I hand it to her and she is amazed at how light it was. The only MAJOR negative of the cab is the tolex covering. I've had it one week, done three shows and it's ripped in several places from normal schlepping. I'm gonna have to somehow re-upholster this thing in a month. That tolex covering is not built for real gigging. This is where G-K cut corners. I've had other tolex cabs in the past, like a Randall 60 and a Fender, that were much sturdier.

Most speaker manufacturers have two power ratings for their drivers. For instance, Eminence 3012HO:
Power Rating
Watts 400W
Music Program 800W

This could possibly explain the discrepancy there. As for the impedance....I don't know.

I'd call GK customer service, rather than wait for an email reply.

Yes. In another thread about the differences between the MBE and Neo series, I suggested the drivers might be different because G-K's site specifically mentions "Paragon" drivers only for the Neo series. Bob Gallien responded that they are the same, which supports the 400 watt, eight ohm config. Also, remember the cab is supposed to match up with the 210 MBE combo, which means it should be eight ohms, and able to handle more than 200 watts.

All that said, who knows? One thing I do know -- I'd love to have a lightweight 1x15" cab that can handle 400 watts!

I called them today - but, duh, it's Labor Day.
I don't want to send the cab back to GC until I receive definitive information from GK.

Isn't it just the MB line of lightweight equipment that is causing real problems for GK?
(which doesn't help me in that a lightweight 2x12 at 4 ohms would be great if it was reliable and sounded decent)

I think we became accustomed to expect nothing less than perfection from G-K. I know I was surprised that it took so many revisions to straighten out the MB2-500 issues. I couldn't wait any longer and ended up with a MarkBass LMTube, but am still planning on an MB Fusion if they ever materialize (LOL). Even then, I'll give it some time to see if there are any bugs.

Accoring to an email response from GK:

Hope you guys get this worked out. This is definitely odd.

I had a similar experience dealing with Guitar Center when I was purchasing a GK RBX 115. The GC website had a picture of the smaller version of the 115 but I received the larger version (the one that is the same dimensions as the 410) in the mail.

The website also had completely different dimensions listed as on the GK site. The weird thing is when I talked to them they had the exact same attitude of "We get all our information from GK so it's not our fault". Even when I informed them of the error and told them they should probably take down the picture since it would confuse buyers they did nothing until the 115 was sold out.

I'm really interested to hear what GK has to say about issues like these.

Here's my dealing with MF. I ordered an 115RBX cab and they delivered an 115RBXII. when I notified MF, they refunded $120.

While I actually wanted the smaller cabinet.

Sounds like to me they shipped you the old model neo cab.

We make two versions of this cabinet- an 8 ohm, 400watt cabinet and a 4 ohm 200watt cabinet. The sticker on the cabinet is correct. If you were expecting the 8 ohm, 400watt version, please contact the dealer that you purchased the cabinet from and we will arrange a swap through the dealer.

I just contacted Amazon for a replacement, and they claim they'll send me out the adverstised 400 watt version when they get them in stock. And they don't know when that'll be. Anyhoo.........
