That contour def adds some mid scoop to your sound. I think the EQ flat is bass and treble at noon and mids around 11 or so. I think. So you're scooping quite a bit. But mainly with the contour. I found out early on with my 1001 that I cut through SO MUCH better with my contour all the way. And left it ever since. Me no likey the contour. It's not for everyone I guess.

Wow, I was way off!! So sorry for the misinformation. I knew I heard that before but it's obvious I got mixed up and forgot. My bad. I found out from chef here on TB a whole back. That's exactly what he said, as Steve anobe did.

I've had no issues running both cabs. Having said that, my amp is a 700RB-II, not a Fusion 550, and I have considered getting another 212, not because I'm worried about the 112 cab(I'm really not) or I think it sounds bad(I love the way my rig sounds), but because I really want a taller rig! :bassist: I'll keep the 112 because it sounds fantastic by itself...

Just gonna say it sounds great until you're not present in the mix. But you already know that! Used to scoop myself before I joined a group. Solo it sounds great! In a group, there's almost no sound!

I received my MB800 on Friday. Props to RMC Audio, who I placed the order with on Wednesday. Free shipping on 2-day delivery was sweet! When I put in the order, I fully expected that I wouldn't receive the head until after the weekend. Of course, once I saw it was out for delivery on Friday, I was refreshing the tracking # practically every half hour! Since it was raining on Friday, I then called "the boss" to make sure she took it inside the house!

In a great show of restraint & willpower, I didn't get a chance to actually play it until yesterday, so I didn't even open the box until I was ready to plug it in. Even before I did this, I wanted to disconnect my Aguilar AG500 and remove it from the top of my cab stack. My first thought was, "man, this thing is heavy!". Inside of it's case, the total weight is pushing 30 lbs. I guess I got spoiled by lugging my TH500 to gigs, since that's a feather-weight in comparison!

I didn't toy around with the controls too much; pretty much kept it flat (based on the BGM review & steve_rolfeca's comments above). Couldn't really crank up the volume since I wasn't alone at home.

Couple things I noticed, which have been mentioned in various GK threads. The fan is noticeable once it kicks on, but that's by myself in a quiet practice room. It's louder than the soft whir I get from my TH500. Didn't hear a thing once I started playing. As I was setting the gain, I noticed that the gain knob was "sticky" in the 11-1 position, but then I remembered that the dual-purpose push knobs are like that. I know, I know ... RTFM!

It's definitely cleaner than my TH500, which I expected ... and desired. It's also cleaner, in a different way, than my AG500. More clarity, too. Even the 60-cycle hum coming from my Sadowsky when I favored one of the pickups was more prominent than what I'd get through the AG500. Again, no fault of the amp.

All in all, I'm looking forward to putting this head through its paces!

Now I just have to go back a few pages to see some carry bag suggestions! I recall there were a few only a page or 2 back.

Hey 1001 users, I'm trying to get some advice of guys using P basses with this amp. How are you getting your P to totally cut through the mix. I mean CUT through. It sits really nice in the mix, but doesn't want to cut through. What are you setting your 1001's to to be totally prominent in the mix?? I have a Squier P modded with active EMG-PAX's in it.

You could try this: Turn up the input knob past 1:00 or so, to get some distortion, and then control the overall level with the "woofer" knob. Make sure the "contour" knob is all the way off. Turn down some lows, turn up some mids. Experiment with the tone knob on your bass.
Of course, the 1001 has a ridiculous amount of headroom, so you can use sheer volume, too. :eek:
You didn't mention what cabinets you're using... that is a factor, too.
