Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

Hey GK gang! I picked up a 1001 yesterday on a trade. I had one maybe 10 years ago and I liked it a lot but... then I saw other shiny amp things. I should have just kept it because I bought and sold a lot of stuff since then just to come back to what I already had a decade ago. I didn't really forget how good it sounds, but it was a refreshing reminder to have one again. :)
And 10 years ago the 1001RBII was considered the lightweight alternative.:D Although it packs a powerful punch without being overly heavy.

1001RB is still my amp of choice, and will be for the foreseeable future. This was during a preflight check before a socially distanced gig last weekend. First one in quite a few months, so wanted to make sure it all fired up as expected!

Ha yeah it sort of was at that time! Well the weight of it is definitely not a burden. I actually explored some lightweight and heavy options over the years. The best thing of all is a Mesa 400+... so the 1001 is still lightweight to me :D

Thats the ticket! I might as well grab an evidence pic since Im sitting right next to it. Once I get a band again Ill probably use it most of the time with a CN212 but its awesome with the 610 too.

Not sure why its sideways but oh well. Worse things have happened.

Compared to other amps, the GK stuff always seems to be louder than it's listed power rating. For instance, I have a GK MB200 I use with a DNA DNS112 4oHm cab and it is LOUD for 200 watts at 4oHms. If you can afford it why not get the higher powered model. Never know--one day you could pair it with a couple 810's!

I've ALWAYS used amps with higher ratings than cabs. Just listed to the cab, it will tell you if you are over doing it.

Thanks. Part of my logic (or lack thereof?) was that pushing a lower-wattage amp harder vs. more relaxed higher-wattage amp would get more grind out of it. Or is that not so much a thing with SS and you just need to turn up the gain if you want more grind?

I haven't tried the Legacy series yet, but I understand there's a new great overdrive/grind built in already. It's always a nice thing to have an amp that's not pushed to its limits and very capable power wise. In a word--yes you can get great grind from the Legacy 500 as well as the 800. For myself, I know I won't outgrow the 500 with the current group of musicians I play with (when one day we can play again). But I admire those who can go out and feel they're worth it and buy the top of the line model. If you can afford it get it. :D

Like everything, that's true to a degree. You should get the grind by overdriving the front end of the amp, rather than the amp overdriving the cab.

Thanks again to both of you. I don't see using the built-in overdrive. I'm really happy with my Damnation MBD-1 for that. But that all does makes sense.

@alaskaleftybass Top of the line would be 1200, which I most definitely wouldn't need. If I ever got the point of needing that much power, I'd be thrilled to spend that much money as a congratulations to myself for getting that far!

Hey guys,

I've decided that my next amp is going to be a Gallien-Kruger. Right now I'm split between the Fusion and Legacy...

Any advice?
I had the same dilemma about a month ago. I went with a Fusion S 800 and have no regrets whatsoever. Both are completely viable options, but I wanted the tube pre for a little more warmth. Either are great amps. The Fusion S has made me a GK lifer.

That's how I feel about my 700RBmkii. No matter what I change to, I always come back to it. I Just got it back from a service center as well because I had all the pots cleaned and lubricated.
