The tweeter is driven by an LM3886 chip...but the question is what other components got damaged when the HF amp chip went:

That schematic is for the 700RB-II - it might be different if your combo is the Mark I series.

Yeah, it's an MK1. Perhaps I won't bother as you suggested.

I just repaired a 412 cab, and it was the tweeter that was the problem , it kept back feeding and blowing fuses on the crossover.
Are you positive its the 50w section in the amp ? Cables are ok?

I had thought that the horn was out and had bought a cx 1x15 and the horn on it doesn't work either and I believe i'm running the right cable to it.

Check the ceramic coupling caps also.

Tip on replacing LM3886 ans similar style parts: get small diagonal cutters like the Wiha 56818. Cut the legs off the package and remove the leads one at a time with your solder iron and tweezers. Solder wick the solder pads clear and clean with electronics grade isopropyl.

A question
If a Trim pot on Legacy head needs to be dimed at maximum in order to achieve the best tone (and it is at maximum with my passive P bass), how can I control output D.I. level? With Trim at maximum, output is ultra loud for any FOX or audio interface.

On my Legacy combo, the Trim control affects the Pre DI Output level. I set it around 9:00 to 10:00 to match the input gain at our board. If you are seeking controlled distortion, I would suggest trying the CAL Grizzly pedal in front of the amp; as that's the best I've found.

I'm pretty sure the DI output is independent of (prior to) the gain setting, and dependent only on your bass' output….

DI output depends only on bass output if it is set to Pre EQ. With Post EQ out it depends of Trim

On my amp, the Legacy 112 Combo, the Trim affects the Pre DI Output level.

I've been using two CX210 cabinets with great success. You get that classic ceramic speaker sound in a lighter package. They can pack a punch and have a nice throw/spread without overwhelming the room. I use two CX210 because I like having the flexibility to only bring one to smaller clubs and both as needed. I also like the ability to stack them vertically to get some of the sound closer to my ears.

I love my vertical 410. CX210 on the bottom , Neo 210 on the top
the CX210 is a bit more organic in the low mids , classic ceramic sound
and the Neo210 is more organic in the high mids , classic neo sound
together I get a wonderful mix...
I've even thought about swapping a speaker in each box ...but i'm to lazy to do that

Now I need to check my DI output. I have a Legacy head, non-combo. I was pretty sure the DI preceded the gain control, but then I almost never adjust the gain (1:00). I think it odd that the combo would be different. I'll check the head out and edit this reply.

Edit: You're right, the trim is ahead of the DI, whether set pre or post. My apologies. I guess I'm thinking of my Subway, where that's not the case, at least when set to pre. I'd need to check its post setting.

Trim controls input to the entire amp so should affect everything, right? How could it not, being where it is in the chain?

I like that look much better than rat fur. You have a big brother to my newly acquired 400RBiii 2x10. I may have to take inspiration from your amp.

Here is mine. Was filthier before a vacuum. May need speakers at some point soon. They break up a bit when boost is up near noon. No cooling mod. Has a little bit of noise floor. Time for an internal cleaning.

I am quite enjoying this GK tone.

Very nice, if I ever find a 400rb combo i'd buy it in an instant.

Yeah the tolex made such a difference, felt like I had a new amp!

Great match up! MB's+CX speakers sound great together. only better combo I can maybe think of is a GK212 or Ampeg 810


Anyone see GK at NAMM ? Are we getting an Updated RB Series? Or a new Fusion 550 model as Forest stated?

If not then I have to do the Bryan Beller type setup and get a Fusion 500+ RB amp from the used market .
Cuz I want a tube front end AND a boost knob

Just bought GK Fusion 500 for my brother, question? does this respond to Tube rolling, I also have the Fusion 550 that I rolled in some Tung sols in it, there was a some tone difference, bit brighter, better overdrive, any input would help

As far as I know - they use the same basic preamp circuit.
So, I'd expect the MBF500 to respond to tube-rolling similarly to your Fusion 550.
