Gallien Krueger mb115 or Ampeg SVT210AV?

I've been gigging my MB115 very hard for well over a year now, some of that time playing damn loud with a rock n roll band and it has always sounded great and is damn loud for it's size, weight, price, and wattage.

It's DI is pre-EQ only, and while that always sounded fine thru house PAs for me - if you like a different tone then you'll need to use a Sansamp or pedal in front of it to get a "post effected" tone thru the PA.

with any music that uses the term "hardcore" to describe it, there's no way i'd use either one of those cabs. they're both small and fairly light duty cabs. i have a couple 210av's and love them, but i'm not looking to play "hardcore" music with them.

Thanks man... I went to a music store the other day and compare the two of them, and I found out that GK MB115 is better than the Ampeg SVT210AV... So I ended up buying the GK MB115 with a satisfied face... :D\m/

btw... how many pedal/s to make that "post effected" tone that your saying? Because I'm playing bass for about a year and a half, am not so sure about what stuff should I use.

The DI being pre-EQ means that the DI out is not colored by the amp. If you use any pedals in front of the amp, then the signal will be colored by those pedals before reaching the amp. This means that the sound of whatever pedals you use will go out the pre-EQ DI on the amp.

The only way for the pedals to NOT go to the PA is to have a DI before your pedals.

I play the Ampeg and it's cool for what I do, but that's pop/rock cover band stuff.

I tried and didn't think the matching head or the new PF350 did the cab justice. I've been playing my Hartke LH1000 through it. Yes, I know I could blow it if I crank the amp, but it sounds friggin sweet.

I just purchased the Ampeg PF350 and the Ampeg SVT210 AV cab to use together. I need a lightweight setup and this seemed to be the best sounding combo I could find.

I don't need loud or need to play over a drummer "MacBook Pro" pre-recorded background so this seemed to do the trick.

Any suggestions or comments??

I don't like to ever come in a tell someone who just bought a new piece of gear that they made the wrong choice, but I think Jimmy's point is VERY valid and you may want to consider returning the amp. I think you will find that the GK is not the amp for what you want to do, and you will end up using it as a practice amp at home, and still needing a bigger amp for playing with a band (otherwise you'll be pushing that thing like crazy trying to keep up and eventually kill it...). If you love the sound of the amp, then maybe return it and grab a used GK Head instead. For practicing at home I always recomend the Acoustic B20 which you can usually find for like $75 used.

Just some thoughts...

I just set everything up for our concert tonight...
I hate the sound!! Amazing how Amp/Cab sound different at GC and then at your venue.

I need it to sound great without needing to be loud.
I play in small to large size churches. Some outside concerts.
I can take my Ampeg Portaflex Series PF-350 Amp head and my SVT210AV Bass Cab back to GC. Going to have to get something that will work for me. It really did sound great in the store... Horrible in the church we are at. It is probably a medium size church but it took me forever to dial it in to where I could "stand" the sound. Not saying it sounded good.
Again, any help is appreciated!!

I think your right... Im starting to think that GK is not the right thing for me, I might return it next week.

I just need some 200watt bass amp that is good for practice, recording and for a gig too. And I don't have the budget for those bigger amps.

Can you help me?...

My final choices ended up being a Ampeg PF-500 Head and Porta Flex 210 cab
It is awesome.
Just got a Fender Rumble 15 for practice in our trailer. Sound is great in such a small space.
Am in love with both of my setups...
They are great.
