Gallien-Krueger MB2-500: Part II

just straight up traded my GK1001RB-II for one. Loved the RB but it was too much for me. I'm running my MB2-500 through an EarCandy Bassbomb (2X12"). HUGE HUGE tone....can't believe how much volume and tone comes out of this set up. Way more than enough for my 60s pop / psychadelic band and just right for my Buzzcocks cover band.

I did - check earlier posts in this thread - twice in live gigs. The head didn't feel hot but it cut out on a regular basis. I think there is too little room inside the enclosure for adequate cooling, but what do I know, I'm not an engineer :hmm:

Yes - I only thought to check on one occasion and it had come on. The fan comes on only on demand on this unit, unlike the Shuttle for instance, and IMHO that feature contributes along with the very tight space to low thermal thresholds....

Right... I know it doesn't always run, just wondering if it is actually overheating or if it was some other internal problem.

blues gig the next day it was fine 3 sets

I was curious about this, so i fired up my A03 going into 4 ohms which included 3 10's and I set my amp like you described. First thing I noticed was I had too much stuff rattling an buzzing in my house to tell a lot about the tone and there is no way I was going to tolerate this volume for long in the 12x24 room I was set up in. After a few minutes I kept thinking the manual recommended cranking master to 3 oclock and using the gain to control your volume. I wasn't sure that applied to Boost Master, but I tried it and I thought I was able to get much more headroom this way and to me it sounded better at the same volume. This is not a good test and I will try this at a gig or outside later, but I was even more impressed with how hard I could push this little amp and my ears are still ringing..... I have had no issues with my A03, but I may get the A05 version to have the removable feet. BTW I'm playing a a Roscoe LG3005 w/18V active barts

Bought my MB2 a month ago.
Used it for the forth time last night.
3-4 times the volume fell and then sometime later it went up.
Whats up with that? I called Brian today. Sounds like I have to send it in:scowl:
I have a gig in 10 days and it looks like I am screwed:rollno:
I this common?
I know theres something about certain serial #'s?

Sad to say, this head has had issues since day 1. You would think by now that GK would have worked out the bugs by now, but it seems like there are still problems. Since I have tried the GB Shuttle 6, The LMll, and the Cravin BX500, I was hoping to give this one a shot, but can't see doing that until all the issues have been solved. Flawed design?

Yes, on day one we had issues. Since then all of the issues have been addressed. Gecko 5 got ahold of one of the first rev units and we are replacing it for him. The MB2-500's that we are currently making and shipping out are working just fine and we are getting some great feed-back from both our customers and pros using them out in the field.

Yep, my A05 is fitting the bill quite well. No complaints here!

Oh, and the carrying case for the amp is pretty sweet too.

These heads have only recently started shipping in the UK, can you confirm if all the heads bought will be the newer A05 models? Looking to by from a uk website so wouldn't be able to check what the number is before buying it.

Yes, the MB2-500's that have been sent to the UK are the current rev. units.
