About 2/3 of the time I was checking it out the output suddenly dropped to very low levels and got mildly distorted. I tried all the usual things to figure out what was going on to no avail. This only occurred in the main channel, not the G.I.V.E. channel, which seemed to work just fine. :scowl:

I'm sure the MB2 will also prove herself to be reliable, just like any other older GK models out there. But until that time, I better keep away and stick to the 1001 (which means a few hundred bucks more for me)...

Here it is again:

The change will only adjust the flat setting base line. Nothing you can't get with the small EQ adjustments that have already been discussed. The idea is to make it so the starting sound is closer to what people expect from GK with the EQ flat. After reading all your posts I decided to make this change. Our next run will not be in stores until mid November. Any one who wants this adjustment will be accomodated free of charge.

I wouldn't be turned off of the MB² for reliability reasons....most of them have been flawless.

I'm sure the MB2 will also prove herself to be reliable, just like any other older GK models out there. But until that time, I better keep away and stick to the 1001 (which means a few hundred bucks more for me)...

The knob was probably a little dirty. I gave the one I tried a few turns and the problem dissappeared.

I've had mine for almost one month now. I've used it at least 1 or two hours daily and I've done five, 4 hour gigs with it. I've had no problems and it's been very reliable so far.

I received the new re-designed MB2-500 direct from GK on Friday. I had a minor issue with one of the knobs rubbing on the Housing of the first unit, and GK wanted me to return it for their engineers to check out. They sent me the new redesigned unit and it just plain rules. I discovered that, by accident after a few hours, that I no longer need the -10db pad so they must have changed that as well as cutting some of the low end. I didn't mind the tone I was able to dial in with the first unit cause I thought it eliminated the need for anything larger than my 10's to reproduce the bottom. I love this amp and with this newer redesigned unit I find that I'm adding more bass where before I was cutting it a bit. I am finding endless desireable tones with this jewel combined with my Rosco and Neo 10's. I think its a wonderful thing that GK has redesigned this based on all of the input received here. I don't know If I'm the first to have this new design but I will say that I would not change a thing on this unit, nor would I trade it for any other amp of any kind. I hope you all find what you are lookin for as well. Thanks Robert!!!!

So they did cut the low end on these? At some point, if someone doesn't beat me to it (including Bob posting here), I'm gonna' call GK and see what the deal actually is. I've heard both stories now... that they're doing something with the low end, and also that they're not.

FYI, I took my MB²-500 back to GC, that big boost at 20hz killed the deal for me.If they redo the EQ and make the low boost a defeatable option I'd love to have one in the future.

Wow, you don't like that feature? Of course, the Kingston I'm playing through my MB²-500 is plenty bright so that may be why I like the matchup.

We did not change the low end, only the low and high mid response. This has the same effect as reducing the bass, but the bass is not what was different, it was the mids.

Have y'all done something to the input sensitivity? My old 400RB could handle my G&Ls with no sweat but the MB-2 I need to use the pad.

I'll send mine if some change was made in that regard. I hate padded inputs.

There is no input pad, the gain of the input stage is simply reduced.

Im about ready to purchase one of these, being quite happy with my 1001 and 400rbIV. Doesnt appear that GK has a padded case or rack mount hardware available. (hint, might be a good product to offer). I would love to throw this into a small rack with my F1X for example.

Has anyone had any success finding an alternative to throwing it in the gigbag?

quite saddened to read that. i use my tu-2 to cut me off all the time because i have a bad habbit of continueing to play around while someone is talking. i was hoping to just have the cord between my bass and the head. looks like i'll still be using the tu-2.

rag said earlier that they've ordered the tooling to make rack ears for them. and someone earlier showed pics of them using some ment for a markbass head successfully.

You might be able to use an after-market A/B footswitch to do what you want.

yeah, that's just more cables and stuff to carry. no biggie. although i'm really torn now. i've been going back and forth on the mb2-500 and the 700rbii. both have similar specs. the 700 has bi-amping ability, 4/5 sting button and a presence pot. the 500 is small. i was hoping that it also had the mute on a foot switch. hmmm, is size really worth it?

guess i might be flipping a coin.
